I find that no matter what one I do of these.....the kiddos love Bear! Again, the repetitive phrases make this an excellent choice for Every Child Ready to Read sessions. ( ![]() Genre Humorous stories Picture books for children Stories in rhyme Tone Sweet Subject Animals Bears Blizzards Caves Forest animals Hibernation Parties Sleep Winter Character Anthropomorphic One of those books that is just very pretty to look at. Perfect read-aloud for story times. Lots of repetition "...and bear snores on" This is a wonderful book for primary aged students. This book is about a bear that is going into hibernation is his cave. A winter strom brews outside the walls of the cave, and woodland creatures seek refuge from it within the cave. The story is comical and has a heartwarming ending. This book is helpful because it contains a very good message of inclusing everyone, and it tap into children's imagination through the talking animals. I would use this book in a way that after we read it, the students would get to dress up and act it out, I got to do this when I was little and I would love for my students to get to too.
Ages 3-6. "In a cave in the woods, in his deep, dark lair, through the long, cold winter sleeps a great brown bear." To the rhythm of such fetching verses, a tiny mouse seeks shelter in a bear's snug cave. A hare soon follows, and the two quietly pop corn and brew tea as "bear snores on." Then a badger arrives with crunchy nuts to share, followed by a gopher, a mole, a wren, and a raven. Bear's den is full and noisy (as indicated by the large, bold type), but bear still "snores on." Then a fleck of pepper for the stew mouse is seasoning makes Bear sneeze, and he awakens to the revelers in his cave. Happy for the company and the food they have prepared, he stays up all night telling stories. In the morning, it's Bear who is awake; everyone else is fast asleep and snoring. The comfy look of Bear's cave and the snappy rhythm of the text beckon youngsters into the story, and the expressively drawn, amusingly posed animal characters ensure repeated readings.
