S'està carregant… The Sinister Pigde Tony Hillerman
![]() Carole's List (321) No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. The Sinister Pig is a nice Leaphorn and Chee novel. It is just a nice story. There is not much suspense or guesswork on the reader as to who the bad guys are and what their motivations are. The Sinister Pig is just not up to Tony Hillerman's usual suspenseful/mystery/adventure story. Consequently, the book only received three stars in this review. ( ![]() The transition from Leaphorn and Chee to Chee and Manuelito continues in this late entry to the series as Chee and Manuelito find themselves involved in a high-level plot to move cocaine into the country via a series of disused pipelines. As usual, multiple people and plotlines are involved. Leaphorn's participation in this one is basically done long-distance. Hillerman, Tony. The Sinister Pig. Leaphorn and Chee No. 16. Harper, 2003. It is always fun to revisit Navaho country with Tony Hillerman. As usual, the course of Jim Chee’s romance is as rough as a reservation road. Leaphorn has a hard time staying retired. And the government is not much help in tracking down bad guys. As a bonus, we find out that things on the Mexican border with New Mexico are not much better. 4 stars. NA Not my sort of plot at all, so I just quickly skimmed the book to keep up with the relationship between two of the characters. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
Contingut aJoe Leaphorn and Jim Chee Mystery Series Complete Set by Tony Hillerman, Volumes 1-18. Also known as the Navajo Tribal Police Mystery Novels. (Titles include: The Blessing Way / Dance Hall of the Dead / Listening Woman / People of Darkness / The Darkwind / The Ghostway / Skinwalkers / A Theif of Time / Talking God / Coyote Waits, / Sacred Clowns / The Fallen Man / The First Eagle / Hunting Badger / The Walking Wind / The Sinister Pig / Skeleton Man / Shape Shifter) de Tony Hillerman
The victim, well dressed but stripped of identification, is found at the edge of the vast Jicarilla Apache natural gas field just inside the jurisdiction of the Navajo Tribal Police, facing Sergeant Jim Chee with a complex puzzle. Why did the Washington office of the FBI snatch custody of this case from its local agents, cover it with secrecy, and call it a hunting accident? What was the victim seeking among the maze of pipelines and pumping stations in America's largest gas field? Was he investigating the embezzlement of billions of dollars from the Indian Tribal royalty trust in the Department of the Interior? On a level nearer to Chee's heart, did the photographs Bernie Manuelito took on an exotic game ranch near the Mexican border reveal something connected with this crime? Did Bernie, once a member of Chee's squad but now a rookie Border Patrol Officer, put herself in terrible danger? Tony Hillerman leads his readers through another of his intricate plots to the solution of this crime, with a cast of vivid characters: a Washington political mogul and his more-or-less renegade pilot; a customs official who bends the rules; a Mexican smuggler with a conscience; and, finally, "Legendary Lieutenant" Joe Leaphorn, now retired, who connects the lines on a dusty old map to find the answers -- and the Sinister Pig -- among the great scimitar-horned oryx grazing on the historic Tuttle Ranch.
