Pseudonym of historian and archaeologist Frédérique Audoin-Rouzeau. Parisian Commissaire Jean-Baptiste Adamsberg, in London for a conference, finds himself reluctantly involved in a macabre case that begins with nine pairs of shoes and severed feet left at Highgate Cemetery. Police procedural. Didn't really hook me.Probably shouldn't rate it since I quit on it, but I was more than halfway through, and 2.5 seems about right.
A nice Gallic counterpart to Christopher Fowler's very English "Peculiar Crimes Unit" series, which also hints at the supernatural and stars eccentric sleuths. Readers should suspend their disbelief at Vargas's dizzying array of plot twists and coincidences and just enjoy the roller-coaster ride. Great fun! Pertany a aquestes sèries
"When Commissaire Adamsberg, the chief of police in Paris's 7th Arrondissement, is called to the scene of a ghastly and highly unusual murder, he thinks it can't have anything to do with the nine pairs of shoes and severed feet discovered outside of London's Highgate Cemetery just a few days earlier. With the help of the murdered man's gifted physician, Adamsberg delves into the victim's disturbed psyche and unexpectedly finds himself on a path that takes him deep into the haunted past of Eastern Europe, where a centuries-old horror has come to life and is claiming victims far and wide. As Adamsberg circles closer to the truth, it becomes clear that someone on the inside wants to shut down the investigation, no matter the cost"-- No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

An excellent series to read for fun and enjoyment, and to learn all kinds of things as well, thanks to Danglard.
