For one, the book has many extra textual features that make it much more comprehendible for a child. For instance, the author writes the pronunciation of some harder words such as, “abdomen (AB-duh-muhn).” Another great feature is that the book contains labeled pictures. When the author described the parts of a firefly, she added an illustration that labeled the wings, thorax, head, eyes, legs, and antenna. She also included labeled illustrations when describing how fireflies make light, and the life cycle of a firefly. These features allow children to have a better understanding of the information because they can read it and visualize it at the same time. Another reason I enjoyed the book was because the author, at times, would speak directly to the reader by saying something such as, “Each eye has many flat places on it. Imagine looking at yourself in a cracked mirror. The cracks make it look as though you are made of many bits and pieces. That’s how scientists think fireflies see things.” Not only does this grab children’s attention but it also allows them to connect with the subject and better understand the author’s descriptions. The main idea of this story is to describe the characteristics, behaviors, and life cycle of a firefly. ( ) Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
