The author has studied the Lewis and Clark expedition and works with various museums and associations dedicated to studying it. Throughout her life, she has travelled the Lewis and Clark trail. In this book, she goes beyond the facts and history of the expedition to discuss aspects of it that remain relevant to us today: leadership, iconography, perseverance, mental health, cultural diversity. The book is well written. It is more a series of "lectures" than a single thesis, which creates a lack of depth, but does offer an interesting glimpse of why Lewis and Clark retain their fascination for so many.
