Montgomery is a long time and all time favorite author of mine. She writes the perfect girls story with just the right mix of adventure, drama and happiness. I find her books a comfort to read and have re-read most of her works many times over the years. They are classics for a reason and that reason is they are great. These are true comfort books for me and books I enjoy re-reading again and again. My 8 year old really loves this book, and I'm glad (he says 5 stars), but I often found myself yawning as I read it to him. The basis for television "Road to Avonlea". Evocative scenes of childhood and nature, interspersed with short stories told by one character "the story girl". Similar to The Chronicles of Avonlea. Charming. ![]() This was a fun read. I've read the more well-known novels by this author (Anne of Green Gables and Emily of New Moon) so I was eager to read this one. We follow Beverly King, who is thirteen when we meet him, as he meets his cousins and finds his own place among his relatives. This evoked feelings of nostalgia, a longing for a simpler age when kids could wander at will and use their imaginations. I can't say that the Story Girl is my favorite, but I could relate to her love of storytelling. Anyone who has enjoyed L.M. Montgomery's works will enjoy this glimpse into the golden years before a child grows up. I received a free copy of this book from Tundra Books and am reviewing of my own free will. All opinions expressed are my own. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
The Story Girl is a 1911 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. It narrates the adventures of a group of young cousins and their friends who live in a rural community on Prince Edward Island, Canada. The book is narrated by Beverley, who together with his brother Felix, has come to live with his Aunt Janet and Uncle Alec King on their farm while their father travels for business. They spend their leisure time with their cousins Dan, Felicity and Cecily King, hired boy Peter Craig, neighbour Sara Ray and another cousin, Sara Stanley. The latter is the Story Girl of the title, and she entertains the group with fascinating tales including various events in the King family history. "I do like a road, because you can be always wondering what is at the end of it," once said Sara Stanley, also known as the Story Girl. She is enlightening and brings about a glow to the reader's heart. The sequel to the book is The Golden Road, written in 1913. The Story Girl was one of the books which inspired the Canadian television series Road to Avonlea. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
