The Dark World(1946, 1954, 1965)
Those first copyrights were from serialization in Astounding's counterpart, "Startling Stories" and the novels were probably serialized. Hard to say, from such a distant perspective. I first read "Valley of the Flame" when it was released in 1964. It really caught me up. The rich language of the place, and the parallel world (so to speak), seemed very real while I read it. (
