As the title indicates, the purpose of this thesis is to take the suggestion of James Barr in his 1968 epoch-making book, Comparative Philology and the Text of the Old Testament, both explicit and implicity, and apply them to a selected corpus of literature in an attempt to test them as systematically as possible.
