The story begins after Mason's spirit reveals that Dimitri Belikov is not dead, but has rather turned into a strigoi. The protagonist, Rose Hathaway drops out of St. Vladimir's Academy and begins her journey to kill the one she loves the most, so that she save Dimitri's soul.

Rose travels to Moscow as she believes that Dimitri would have gone back to Russia, where she meets Sydney Sage, an Alchemist (a human organization who works for Vampires). It is revealed that she is sent by an infamous Turkish businessman, Abe Mazur, to accompany Rose. During her journey, Rose kills more strigoi than she can count as she tries to find Dimitri's trail.
After an intense fight, Rose wakes up in a house which belongs to Belikova family.

Back at the St. Vladimir's Academy, Lissa Dragomir feels betrayed by her best friend as Rose leaves for Russia. After being forsaken, Lissa drowns into Royal parties, but it may not be the best choice. Especially when a Royal sibling pair, Avery and Reed Lazar begins to manipulate Lissa.

Will Rose be able to find Dimitri? Will she be able to kill the one she loves? What will happen to Lissa? How will Rose save Lissa when she's thousand of miles away from her?

This book was a little slow in the first half, but the second half makes up for it. This book was much more enthralling, and full of action than the first three books. It reveals alot about Dimitri and his family. In this book, I was able to see a whole different Dimitri, who was not restricted, who was not hiding his feelings for Rose, who was much more deadly. Intriguing and exciting, this book will leave you in awe. ( )

Not too terribly thrilled with one of the twists, but I get it...it is YA and a very Buffyesque YA at that. It was still good all things considered. Possibly my fav this far. ( )
