Slightly outdated, but an excellent introduction to the geography and history of the world's biggest rivers and the countries through which they flow, at least from an Americocentric viewpoint. The Amazon, the Nile, and the Yangtze are discussed, among others; the writing shows definite signs of its 1950s origins, but the level of detail and care for scientific accuracy is certainly at a level suitable for modern high-schoolers.
