The kids are initially excited to get a half-dozen cookies each -- but their faces become glummer and glummer as more and more friends come over and the cookies are divided among more people. But there's a happy ending! Kids and company are ethnically diverse. ( ![]() Mom has made cookies: a dozen to share between two kids. But then the doorbell rings and rings and rings as neighbors and cousins pour in, the cookies are divided between more and more people until there aren't enough for everyone to have a whole one. Then grandma shows up with a bunch more. This is a nice and concrete way to introduce division to young readers. Everyone loves cookies and can wrap their head around evenly distributing them. While the kids are splitting the dozen of cookies with one another, the doorbell rings. As more friends come in, they share the cookies evenly as the doorbell continues to ring. The Doorbell Rang is a cute book that can help readers learn about division, while imagining the taste and smell of grandma's cookies. That was a completely boring story, and I didn't like the art. It might make children hate math and reading. This book is about a lot of people coming over to their home and the children passing out cookies between them so they are all even.
