New to town is Black Hawk pilot Luke, who is definitely not the man she should get involved with. But sometimes the wrong man, is really the right one. Back stories of Luke, who finds mentally challenged Art squatting in one of his cabins. Thinking there's more to Art's story, he fixes up the cabin and hires him to help renovate the rest of the cabin string on the river. Back romances with Walt & movie actress Muriel, Cameron's hook up with Abby in a chance meeting in Grant's pass has consequences, and Doc passes away suddenly leaving a doctor vacancy in Virgin River that Cam steps in to fill for a year ( ![]() I don't think Robyn Carr could write a bad book. This is the second book I have read by her and it is part of her Virgin River series and although I didn't connect with the characters as well in this one as I did in her first book of the series I totally enjoyed this one. Not normally my cuppa this book is a May/December relationship type of book. Luke is 13 years older the Shelby and Carr did an excellent job of acknowledging it. She managed to create a storyline that, granted, had been done in the past with a younger inexperienced woman and an older worldly man, but made it fresh and didn't feel like a 1970's Harlequin Presents. Not that I am dissing those books....I cut my teeth on them, but after so many years my romantic tastes in reading material have grown and matured with me. I didn't think that I would or could like a book where the hero and heroine were so different but I did. As far as the couple goes....Luke didn't stand a chance against Shelby. She set her sights on him and he tried to resist....tried really hard but in the end gave in (not such a hardship really). Shelby, although inexperienced in relationships she wasn't naive which I appreciated. I liked both Shelby and Luke. During the course of the book, typical of the series, we experience life in Virgin River, see old friends, meet new friends and witness a major happening that brings that town together. From the books I read, this is a standard theme. I don't mind. It works. But this isn't all that happens. Carr carries the story of Virgin River along where it really doesn't feel formulaic at all. There are plenty of new happenings to keep the series fresh which is good because from what I hear she is continuing the series bringing three new ones out this year and next year....possibly the year after too. Great news for fans. I cannot recommend this series enough to my fellow romance lovers. I often compare them to Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove books which I also really like. AUTHOR Carr, Robyn TITLE: Temptation Ridge DATE READ: 03/10/2016 RATING 4/B GENRE/PUB DATE/PUBLISHER/# OF PGS Romance/ 2009 / Mira / 416 pgs SERIES/STAND-ALONE: #6 Virgin River series CHARACTERS Shelby McIntyre/niece to General "Walt"'; Luke Riordan/ former Army pilot TIME/PLACE: 2009 / Virgin River in Northern California FIRST LINES Shelby was within 10 miles of her Uncle Walt's ranch when she had to pull over to the side of highway 36, the busiest stretch between Virgin River & Fortuna, behind an old pick-up truck that looked vaguely familiar. COMMENTS: Always nice to visit the folks in Virgin River. Shelby is 25 and has been a caregiver for her mother until her recent passing. Her education and social life have been put on hold. She had sold her mother's home and is ready to start nursing school, do some traveling and start dating. She is temporarily moving in w/ her uncle in Virgin River. Luke is in his late 30's and is a former army pilot. He has some property in Virgin River he plans on renovating until he moves on and gets a flying job somewhere. He was married once and burned badly… never fully recovered and has not had any time of lasting meaningful relationship in over a decade. Luke is taken in by Shelby but considers her too young & he doesn't want to get involved beyond casual and Shelby has plans to move away for nursing school… "2.5 out of 5 stars. This is the first book that I've read from this series, and even though it's within a series, I feel that each book can be read as a standalone novel. However, with that being said this novel/series, I've come to realize, is written in a way that each novel may have main characters but still has a bunch of sub-plots throughout the whole book. This makes it so some of the sub-plots that come up in one of the novels might not end until the next novel or a few novels after that. It's definitely a unique concept that made me even more interested in this series. Nevertheless, I find that even though I thoroughly enjoyed reading about each of the main characters, the different plots, and the town. I didn't like..." This one was a little bit different from the others, just from the fact that we don't actually get the usual timeline the others books followed, but still an amazing story. I really loved how Luke and Shelby built their relationship and how they became so close and intimate with eachother. The thing that I liked the most was how Shelby acted towards getting the things she actually wanted for her life. Such strong-minded characters give us readers something to all look forward to in the next books. Loved to see Cameron again and I hope he gets his story straightened out.

After five years of being her mother's caregiver, twenty-five-year old Shelby McIntrye is looking forward to fun, college, and the right man-- who is definitely not Luke Riordan, an ex-Army helicopter pilot with commitment problems. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
