Teen Lizzie is hit by a car and dies. Lizzie wakes up in Elsewhere. A place where one can sort of regress and grow younger and have another start. Lizzie gets to meet her grandmother in Elsewhere. Lizzie has the opportunity to learn a few things in Elsewhere. A very nice, thoughtful YA read. ( )

Basically, the concept of this book is really interesting, but somehow I couldn't classify it as YA because in the whole it sounded too childish and predictable. It's a pity, because I think that it could have been developed better (especially the relationships). Beyond that it has been a smooth read, so I think that 3 stars can be enough. ( )

I really enjoyed this lovely story of how Elizabeth Hall (Lizzie) dies, and wakes up in a place called Elsewhere.
Here she learns to live again, despite being dead, and meets people, including her long dead grandmother.
I thought this was a very nice book, and gave me an insight into what could be. Lizzie was such a great character, and I enjoyed following how she overcame new challenges, each day. I must look into finding more books by this author. ( )

Sometimes when you read a book you come across one that changes the way you see life. In this case, Elsewhere changed my way of seeing death. When I picked up this book I was expecting a light tale of a girl that found herself 'alive' after dying at 15-years-old. But by the end (the ending is amazing and my favorite part) I saw that Gabrielle Zevin had done a wonderful work sending all the right messages about life, dealing with death, love and friendship. Having read her other novel 'Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac' I knew I wouldn't be let down and this book confirms what an excellent author Zevin is. I definitely want to read more of her work.

“But I believe good things happen everyday. I believe good things happen even when bad things happen. And I believe on a happy day like today, we can still feel a little sad. And that's life, isn't it?”

“A life isn't measured in hours and minutes. It's the quality, not the length.” ( )

I try to express only my most honest opinion in a spoiler-free way. Unfortunately, there is still always a risk of slight spoilers despite my best efforts. If you feel something in my review is a spoiler please let me know. Thank you.

Liz is dead. She was hit by a car and died. Now she's in elsewhere, a place where she grows younger not older, till she is young enough to be sent back to earth and reborn. But Liz is only 15 years old, and it took her 'so long' to get there. She doesn't want to back. Her life is over, and she spirals into depression. What is the point in having a job, a family, falling in love, when everything ends and she must begin life on earth all over again?

~Great life lessons.

Dislikes:
~The romance could have been better

So this was a good read. Very interesting and kinda different. Fun and yet sad at the same time. I feel the best thing I can take from this is too make the best out of what you have instead of dwelling on things you can't change. To always look forward, even if you feel like you are going backwards. It's well worth the read. I recommend it. ( )

Liz considers what the strange little boy has said. As much as she longs to be with her family and her friends, she doesn't want to be a ghost. She certainly doesn't want to cause more pain to the people she loves. She knows there is only one thing to do.
