Tricia Evanston wondered why it seemed like things changing as soon as they started going great again. Her brother, David, was visiting her at Bay Meadows Race Track on his way to veterinary school. He liked chemistry, unlike Tricia. They argued over who'd get to choose bagels first. Adam Findley called a business meeting. Something seemed to be going wrong at Portland Meadows, Tricia's home track. Patrick, the old jockey that Trish's father had hired as a trainer was trusted by Trish, & he felt the horses should be left in California until it got sorted out. They also talked about what horses Adam was taking to the Breeder's Cup, and if Trish & Firefly would go. Red Holloran, Trish's special friend, would probably be able to ride for them. Marge, Trish & David's mom, was told by Adam that they were like family.

At the church service they attended, the pastor used the verse "Let not your heat be troubled....In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you", which had been one of Trish's father's favorite verses.

Trish continued to feel the peace she felt after the service while she was at the track.

That night Trish called the Shipsons & Hollorans in Kentucky to let them know that she & her mom were coming to visit. Adam left David know that if he needed a job, Adam would hire him, but Marge said the family would have first choice. They would miss David, what was normal any more? ( )
