Tony falls asleep and didn't do his homework, actually he never does his homework, but his night his homework was completed when all of his writing instruments came to life. Pencil started to write a story, but eraser erased it because he said it stunk. Then ballpoint said he should write, because after all he writes all of the time. Then the fountain pen made a big splotch on the paper which gave the pencil an idea of planet splotch. They wrote a story and completed Tony's homework, but it was messy. Tony woke up and saw how his homework was mysteriously done and crumpled it up, but it gave him an idea to write about "Life on Planet Splotch." This book tells the reader that writing can come from anywhere, anything, and everything. A simple splotch on a piece of paper turned into a brilliant story written by Tony. I would use this book in my class if children got discouraged about writing, saying that they have nothing to write about. ( )
