This book will transform your life for the better, bringing you guaranteed financial results. But it will do more than that, it will change every area of your life: marriage, family health and relationships. For when God changes your heart from selfishness to generosity, every part of your life journey is affected. If all believers followed the practical guidance of The Blessed Life, every church could be built, every nation would have an abundance of missionaries and all would reap the benefits of having a generous heart. With humor, passion and clarity, Robert Morris presents the secrets of living a blessed life both financially and spiritually.  … (més)

I have been a faithful tither for most of my adult life. This book has challenged me to be a better steward of what I have and what I use to bless others. It also makes me want to listen closer to the Spirit and to learn to obey immediately instead of trying to reason myself out if a blessing. ( )

Because I'm Catholic there's a small part of me that hates to admit how much I loved this book (especially, specifically, because the Afterword seems be attacking the "Church" and it's not clear if it's the Catholic "Church" or the larger sense of all Christians ...)

Either way, I loved this book.
The message was clear -- everything belongs to God. Nothing is of your own doing. Your talents -- your job, your pay check -- that all comes from God. The only reason you have a job is because God supplied you with the talents -- abilities -- to do your job; therefore, your pay check ... God's. The *least* you could do in thanksgiving is to give God 10% of your income. (Favorite part of this book for me is it doesn't tell you WHAT church to give to, just says to give to your local church ... Give your 1st 10% to your local church, period. It doesn't have to be Robert Morris' church or his friend's church up the street ... It just needs to be a local church!)

Now, you might be arguing, "That's a lot! I have bills!"
You still have 90% leftover to pay your bills!

You might be arguing, "I don't have 10% to give!"
So look at your finances and find out why that is because 10% is *nothing*! You still have 90% leftover!

You might be arguing, "Tithing is not a Catholic teaching," and stick your nose in the air and feel all good about yourself -- I can say that because that's what I did.
You are 100% correct ... Tithing is not a Catholic teaching. Catholics are not taught to automatically give 10% of their income to the their local parish. It is, however, a Catholic's moral responsibility to support their local parish and diocese and the only way to do that is to give ... and while your volunteer hours are great they don't pay the heat and electric and the staff salaries.

You *totally* do not have to give 10% of your income. You can, and should, give more. 10% is just the starting point, because, again, you still have 90% leftover!

After reading the first few chapters of this book and realizing, "Oh yeah ... 10% would still leave me with 90% to pay my bills" I started tithing. I divided my basic pay check by 10% and started giving that amount weekly at Mass -- $10. I cannot even begin to tell you how I have been blessed since I started doing that! My hours increased at work. I've gotten a raise. A dear friend of mine sent me a HUGE box of high-end clothes that she had in her closet and was going to give away. I got a Kindle for my birthday, which I had been saving to buy myself!

My life has been blessed beyond measure!!

I've read and seen worse prosperity gospel messages - but this is still a mess. A lengthy treatment (including elaboration in the comment thread) can be found here. ( )

A book that shows that the so called Prosperity Gospel is no where to find in the Bible, but that nevertheless tithing is Biblical, and only good when done with the heart. The book makes it clear, giving (of finances, time, knowledge, friendship) is a matter of the heart. ( )
