The main character - a female detective struggling with emotional and serious health problems - hunts a serial killer focussing on couples on their wedding day.

This book was a fast and entertaining read. I liked the style element of writing chapters from the pov of the killer, without giving too many clues. The ending was ok, although I would have preferred a little less surprise twisting of the plot.
The characters are not very well developed and their behaviour and interaction is a little implausible from time to time. I disliked the way the author divided the book in too many short chapters.

I added the second part of the series to my too read shelf - sometimes I like fast and entertaining crime stories in between other books and I read somewhere that the series is getting better because of a co-author ( )

This book was a giant cliche. I knew almost immediately that this was about framing the actual murderer. The only thing surprising was the epiloge, which made no real sense. Like seriously, he had no reason to go to her apartment and try to kill her. None. I read this book to get a feel for James Patterson and as popular an author he is, I had much higher expectations for his writing abilities. ( )

I enjoyed the story and the nice twist although the twist in the twist seemed too much and obvious to see coming but the final twist bumped up gave it an extra 1/2 star. Nice!

I didn't care for the narrator. She sounded too harsh and gave nearly all the characters a very gruff, hard edge. Some aspects of her reading were very good but she could have softened the tones and voices in many places. ( )

A friend has loaned me the first 10 of this series, so I plan to read them in order.
Wow! It moves fast with action and is a bit more graphic than I prefer, but I like the characters and the pace.

Lindsay Boxer works homicide on the San Francisco Police Department, and this is her case. Someone is brutally killing newlywed couples between the time they say “I do” and their honeymoon. The crime scenes are gruesome, to say the least. The connection between the couples seems to be missing. They don’t know each other, travel in the same social circle or are married in the same location. The only possible clue is that when the bodies are found, their wedding rings are missing.

The “Murder Club” develops when Lindsay meets up with Cindy Thomas, reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle. Cindy has managed to get access to the closed crime scene at the first murder. At a later date, Lindsay meets up with her close friend Clair Washburn, chief medical examiner, and Cindy to talk about the high profile case. Cindy may be privy to what is going on, but she is limited in what can be published in the paper. Clair provides details from the autopsies that can help in investigating. Jill Bernhardt, from the DA’s office, is later brought into the group and provides advice on what information the DA’s office needs to bring a case to trial for prosecution. Between the four women and their perspectives, they work towards a solution to the case.

During the case, Lindsay is told she is suffering from a blood disease that can be fatal. She is prescribed a regimen to help reverse/stop it. She refused to take time off, but instead pushes herself to the limit.

There is also a bit of romance for Lindsay in the form of Chris Raleigh, who has been assigned as Lindsay’s partner. His background isn’t police and Lindsay is not looking for love.

This isn’t a sweet and lovely book. It is pretty much non-stop in action. A good read if you want something that keeps you turning pages…and this does. ( )

1st To Die is the first of Patterson's books to feature Lindsay Boxer, Claire Washburn, Cindy Thomas, and Jill Bernhardt, the women that make up the Women's Murder Club. I fell in love with these characters because they have heart, determination, and are smart, strong women. Lindsay is a homicide inspector for SFPD, lives alone with her Border collie, Sweet Martha, and is fighting a life-threatening disease. Claire is San Francisco's Chief Medical Examiner. She's Lindsay's confidant and best friend. Cindy is the new girl just starting her career as a journalist for the Chronicle, but she shows ingenuity and spunk, which earns her a spot in the club. And Jill is a rising star as an Assistant District Attorney—tough as nails and driven to succeed at all costs. Brought together by the "Bride and Groom Murders," these four put their careers, lives, and hearts on the line to put away a nasty serial killer. The suspense and plot twists are neverending and kept me riveted to each page right up to the surprise ending. If you enjoy the Alex Cross series, you will undoubtedly want to read this series. I'm on to the next book. ( )
