A little slice of life in a rundown neighborhood, where a racist lives next to a Hmong family. Good development, slightly on an over-romantic view of change, but realistic and gritty enough to feel the character's emotions. Another win for Clint.—Paul ( )

L'histoire d'un septuagénaire, vétéran du Vietnam, raciste et au tempérament irascible qui perd sa femme et qui ne supporte que la société de sa chienne. Ses enfants, purs produits du matérialisme américain, n'ont aucune chance de susciter son affection.
Des événements du voisinage -une guerre entre gangs asiatiques- vont le contraindre à sortir de son mutisme et de sa solitude, et l'amener à connaître et apprécier des étrangers pour lesquels il n'avait alors que mépris. Clint Eastwood incarne superbement bien son personnage et convainc. Dommage que le scénario manque de subtilité et sombre un peu trop complaisamment dans les bons sentiments. Du cinéma certes intéressant mais qui pêche par ses accents trop démonstratifs. ( )
