"Anna Latham didn't know how complicated life could be until she became a werewolf. This time around, we leave the icy mountains to instead to head to Seattle. Long story short, the werewolves are coming out as the Fae did back in the 80s (in this universe). In order to make the transition a bit smoother, Charles and Anna are traveling to Seattle as representatives of the Marrok in order to meet with various delegations of the European wolves.

After so many books (if you read the Mercy Thompson books first), it's interesting to see the first real look at the European wolves , or really European characters in general. We have one wolf who rules most of mainland Europe as an unofficial, cruel mirror of the Marrok, another who believes himself to be King Arthur reborn, and another Omega whereby Anna can learn more about her powers. On top of that, there's a Fae apparently powerful enough to hold the negotiations in check and a white which who gets her power from a rather interesting sacrifice. After only half a dozen characters in the first Alpha and Omega, it's interesting to see so many more here. It brings Hunting Ground much closer to the Mercy Thompson books in style.

Plotwise, Hunting Ground is actually something more of a mystery, with characters wielding powers they probably shouldn't have with motivations that aren't entirely clear. I really enjoyed the twists at the end. It's fun how common certain tropes and items are to urban fantasy series, yet each does it their own way. On top of that, it's interesting to finally see how wolves not directly under the thumb of the Marrok interact: roughly as badly as you might expect.

Characterwise, it's good to watch Anna and Charles grow, both each as their own and as a couple. There is some significant damage there, but they're both learning how to deal with it. A few of the new characters that we may only see for this book have interesting arcs as well. It's interesting seeing the relationship and give and take between mated couple Moira (a blind witch) and Tom (a werewolf). It's interesting seeing how it can hurt when a werewolf is mated to a human, fated to age and die long before their immortal spouse.

Overall, solid. I liked it. ( )

Sept. 2017 Audio Listen: I really loved the Audio for Hunting Ground. The male narrator, Holter Graham, is wonderful to hear. I suggest giving the Audiobook a try for the Alpha & Omega series. I felt like it was the first time reading Hunting Ground. I was surprised, excited, and felt for the characters. It was amazing!

~ 4.5 Hunting Ground Stars ~

Hunting Ground is book two in the Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs. I really love this series. This book was another amazing read.

I love how Briggs writes. It’s got this ease to it. The characters continue to grow as does the storyline. We see firsthand how Bran’s decision to bring werewolves out the public came to be and how Anna & Charles’ relationship continues to evolve.

I thoroughly enjoy Briggs werwolves and the pack dynamics. It’s fascinating. She shows us the best and worst of the shifter society from The Beast who feeds on human flesh, to Arthur who is not all their, and the Omega’s. We know that the Omega’s are a rarity, but we see that they are all very clueless about their nature and it was fun watching them full-in the blanks.

What I really LOVE about this series is Anna and Charles’ relationship. It takes center stage in this novel, even with all the weirdness going on. These two are still learning about each other, adapting. It is wonderful watching this relationship grow as well as seeing how having a mate is throwing Charles and his wolf off balance. I like that their is open communication between them and not the drama that we see a lot of in other stories.

Hunting Ground had some amazing miss directs and you don’t know who the guilty culprit(s) are until it’s revealed. I re-read this novel and I still was surprised all over again by our culprits. I liked how Briggs through in her own little spin on history with King Arthur and I also liked seeing characters from other novellas or story’s show up in books. We get to see a little of Moria & Tom. If you don’t know who they are you can find them in the novella Seeing Eye that is found in [b:Shifting Shadows: Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson|20821263|Shifting Shadows Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson (Mercy Thompson #0.1, #0.6, #0.8, #1.5, #4.5, #5.5, #7.4)|Patricia Briggs|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1396635417s/20821263.jpg|26341081].

Hunting Grounds gives us a verity of supernatural creatures including; fae, vampires, and werewolves along with some interesting wolf politics, twists, and a romance that is growing. This series should be on every Urban Fantasy readers list.

I picked 'Hunting Ground' up because it's been in my TBR pile for three years, because I've missed reading Patricia Briggs and because I wanted something quick and easy I could read on my iPad while sitting in the sun in the garden (note to self: love my iPad mini but the screen doesn't handle glare well - get a Kindle Paperwhite ASAP).

One chapter in and I was already smiling. This was uncomplicated urban fantasy but it's also brilliantly executed. I read it in two pleasant afternoons.

It's been a couple of years since I read 'Cry Wolf' the first book in this Urban Fantasy series. It seems to me that the second book in the series is a big improvement on the first. The relationship between Anna and Charles is more carefully drawn and more believable. It was good to see Anna starting to assert herself.

The plot was fun: a whole bunch of European Alpha werewolves coming to Seattle to meet the Maroc and then finding his usually silent and almost always lethal enforcer in the Chair instead. Then there's the impact of learning that Charles has a new mate, who looks like a scared rabbit but is apparently and Omega who attracts the interest of every Alpha in the room. Order is kept by a very scary Fae but that doesn't stop the tension from building as different factions compete. Then the vampire attacks start.

It's a fun, fast, action-packed tale (with at least six beheadings) that enrolled me in Anna and Charles story, kept me amused on every page and revived my interest in this series. ( )

Finally got around to finishing this book. It was pretty good, but I didn't like it as much as I do the Mercy Thompson series. Will continue to read though. It is a Paranormal Fiction book told in the third person multiple characters - which is what I call "God's View" since God can read all the minds and knows what everyone sees and thinks. ( )

This is the second book in the series continuing the romance between Anna and Charles. I loved this book and seeing all the different packs from around the world and how different they run things compared to Bran and seeing how each group operates. The world she has created with her wolves is fantastic, one of the best structured werewolves societies I have ever read.

These are a great series of books. ( )

I'm not going to spend a lot of column space on [Hunting Ground]. It's more to let you know that the second "Alpha and Omega" novel is just as strong a contender as any of Briggs's previous Urban Fantasy books.
