These poems first appeared in the Chicago Tribune in 1941. After William Targ, a Chicago bookseller/printer published the poems in this book at his Black Archer Press, he received an invitation from a prominent Chicago Ladies Group for Charles Wu to do a reading before them. When "Charles Wu" showed up to do the reading, some of the women commented, "He doesn't LOOK Chinese?" Yes, William Targ was the poet, Charles Wu!
