Another mixture of romance and suspense, espionage and Regency society, page-turner, stay-up-all-night sort of book.

A reluctant romance, Phillippa Benning isn't loving for a husband, just a bit of excitement in her predictable life. Marcus Worth has a French spy to catch and no time for interfering misses. But then things don't always go as planned...

Phillippa makes a great resourceful intelligent heroine who saves the day when Marcus Worth stumbles in his pursuit. The plot structure is great, four different society gatherings, a mysterious French spy, and more mysterious personages from the War Department.

Marcus does the blundering confused not-quite-ready-to-fall-in-love routine but finally, almost at the last page, figures out that Phillippa will improve his life.

Definitely the lady rescuing her knight, not the other way round.

This was really slow to get into. I wasn't really invested until 1/3 into the book, but then I was hooked into the story (even if it was a bit predictable). The heroine irritated me, but I was pleased to see the changes she was making by the end. I look forward to seeing where we go with the series. ( )

Ok, I think Kate Noble is fast becoming my favorite romance author. While I find still tiny issues in her books, the main couple and also other people in the book are not horrid idiots, but actually interesting human beings. I will keep on reading. ( )

I loved this espionage themed regency of well to do widow, Phillippa Benning, leader of the ton, who accidentally gets herself tangled up into a French plot with "presumably" the notorious English agent, The Blue Raven. Of course, she is taken aback to find that the notorious war hero is none other than the bespectacled, gangly and bookish Marcus Worth! Little does she know! What an entertaining romance, filled with dry wit and plenty of red herrings! Looking forward to continuing with this Blue Raven series! A keeper! ( )
