The Big Elephant in the Room is a book about two friends and a common idiom that causes a bit of confusion in their relationship. As one friend tries to talk to the other about the actual elephant in the room, the story unfolds into a comical series of past happenings as one of the friends confesses everything that he feels guilty about in their friendship. This funny fantasy book is about a horse and a rabbit. They are friends and the horse asks the rabbit if they can talk about the "big elephant in the room." Which is a metaphorical idiom meaning an obvious truth that is being avoided. The rabbit has all these examples of this metaphorical idiom however doesn't realize the horse is literally talking about a big blue elephant in the living room of their house. The illustrations are neat and simple, there are no bright colors, but the characters are drawn very creatively. The faces on the horses and rabbits are very long and funny looking, like cartoon characters. The text is printed in different sizes which makes it fun to read. I feel like children will have a hard time understanding this book just because of the metaphorical idiom being used. Maybe older children would have a better understanding, younger children would mostly enjoy the illustrations. ( )
