My first Christie. Being a lifelong mystery fan, I figured it was time. Even if this book is steeped in racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, and classism -- even this "revised" edition. I will say, I did not predict the whodunit, so that was refreshing. Overall, though, meh. Mainly because the story felt more concerned with impressing readers with its cleverness than its characters, setting, atmosphere. Perhaps I waited too late in life to read her for the first time? At any rate, I plan to read at least one from the Poirot series before I conclude my exploration of Christie's works. A true classic of the genre, Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None is a devilishly clever whodunit, which had me guessing (incorrectly) until the end. This was the first Agatha Christie novel that I’ve ever read. It was so gripping and compelling! Wicked and masterful! I can see why people are obsessed with her writing, and I wonder why it’s taken me so long to pick up something by her. I absolutely love the storytelling, the creativity, and her approach. It makes me want to go and read so many more for books now. No matter how many times I read this book I can't figure out the ending. That makes ot a great book.
It is the most baffling mystery that Agatha Christie has ever written, and if any other writer has ever surpassed it for sheer puzzlement the name escapes our memory. We are referring, of course, to mysteries that have logical explanations, as this one has. It is a tall story, to be sure, but it could have happened. The mystery is foolproof. The solution is fair. It all fits together at the end. Ten houseguests, trapped on an isolated island, are the prey of a diabolical killer. A famous nursery rhyme is framed and hung in every room of the mansion: Ten little Indian boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were nine--When they realize that murders are occurring as described in the rhyme, terror mounts. Who has choreographed this dastardly scheme? And who will be left to tell the tale? No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
