No child is too young to appreciate the amazing deductive powers of the worlds smartest detective. These easy-to-read Sherlock Holmes stories provide the perfect introduction to the super sleuth and his friend and assistant, Dr. Watson. Among the intriguing tales: "A Scandal in Bohemia," Holmes' first encounter with the mysterious Irene Adler; "The Red-Headed League"; "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons" and others. I read this to my son, who was quite interested. A good introduction to Sherlock Holmes. The afterword by Arthur Pober, EdD says, 'Even for a gifted young reader, getting through long chapters with dense language can easily be overwhelming and can obscure the richness of the story and its characters. Reading an abridged, newly crafted version of a classic novel can be the gentle introduction a child needs to explore the characters and story line without the frustration of difficult vocabulary and complex themes.' Hopefully this book achieved its goal and I can introduce my son to the richer originals. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a series of stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle comprising the adventures of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson. The stories in this series are: Many short histories, so I am going to tell you my favorite 3 stories: Scandal in Bohemia Holmes is called by a masked gentleman. It comes as the Count Von Kham, an agent for a wealthy client, but Holmes quickly deduces that this is Gottsreich Wilhelm Sigismund von Ornstein, Grand Duke of Cassel-Feldstein and hereditary King of Bohemia. King, tearing the mask, he admits. A case identity Set in 1888, the story revolves around the case of Mrs. Mary Sutherland , a woman with great interest income through a fund set up for her. She is engaged to a quiet Londoner who has recently disappeared. Holmes detective skills are put to the test just as this case becomes very elementary for him, though both intrigue Watson. The Boscombe Valley Mystery This story begins when Watson receives a telegram from Sherlock Holmes, while having breakfast with Mrs. Watson peacefully. The text says: " Do you have a couple of days just received a telegram from the west of England in connection with the tragedy Boscombe Valley I would love to take time and great panorama I'll be out of Paddington at 11.15 h. lady bug (leidi, bag) adj a small round beetle that is red page 18 hyphen (haifen) noun a mark used in writing page 24 dredge (dred3e) noun to remove mud or sand from the bottom Classic Starts: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes features abridged versions of six short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The language is simplified for younger readers, but the essence of the original stories is not compromised. The book includes "A Scandal in Bohemia", "The Red-Headed League", "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle", "The Greek Interpreter" and "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons". There are several nice black and white illustrations to complement each story. My only criticism of the illustrations is that Watson seems too old. Dr. Watson was only a few years Sherlock Holmes' senior, but is depicted as much older in several screen adaptations. The illustrations in this book seem to be based more on the screen versions of the characters than the original Sidney Padget drawings. Padget's illustrations show the two men to be much closer in age. However, this is a very minor quibble on my part. The age difference will likely help young children differentiate between Holmes and Watson. The modern, easy-to-read language and abridged format in this book make these classic stories accessible to younger readers who may find the complex vocabulary or length of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original work too challenging. This w.ould be a great choice for a 7-10 year old who enjoys mysteries but might not be ready to tackle the Sherlock Holmes books on their own just yet. Classic Starts: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes also includes discussion questions to help broaden the reader's understanding of the stories. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
