Cap No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. #50States50Romances #Alaska I really enjoyed this one, but there were some sub-plots that either needed to be explored more or cut entirely. This is a great story with an alternate-universe sort of feel to it, where Alaska never becomes part of the United States. The characters all have their own distinctive personalities, which makes falling in love is very entertaining. An hour after casting aside this book in exasperation, I still can’t understand how the author of the brilliant and hilarious [b:Undead and Unwed|421129|Undead and Unwed (Undead, #1)|MaryJanice Davidson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1298768655s/421129.jpg|2523603] could have squeezed out this mechanical, monotonous, and embarassingly unfunny lemon. The alternative history premise is childish in execution. The U.S. turns down Russia’s bargain offer of Alaska. The Russian residents declare unilateral independence and set up their own kingdom. One-and-a-half centuries later everyone in Alaska, from the king down, is speaking in colloquial English. Why? A down-and-out cook from a cruise liner docked in Juneau decides to spend her last few dollars on a fishing excursion. The owner of the boat turns out to be the King of Alaska, indulging in a little secret slumming. That’s funny? The Crown Prince has a PhD in marine biology and loves feeding penguins that peck and poop. Hilarious? The ‘jokes’ are so unfunny that I can’t help feeling Ms Davidson’s attention was far, far away when she wrote them. Or perhaps she was under psychological duress and the jokes were extracted without benefit of anaesthesia. There’s no accounting for taste, but that doesn’t begin to explain why I found [b:Undead and Unwed|421129|Undead and Unwed (Undead, #1)|MaryJanice Davidson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1298768655s/421129.jpg|2523603] so funny, and [b:The Royal Treatment|574854|The Royal Treatment (Alaskan Royal Family, #1)|MaryJanice Davidson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1190861579s/574854.jpg|602352] so unreadable. Did not finish; did not rate. MaryJanice Davidson has become one of my all-time favorite authors. I first found her by reading Undead and Unwed, the first book in her Undead series. Wanting more, I found The Royal Treatment. I must be honest and say I didn't like it as much as do her Undead books, but it is a sincerely hysterical book! The Royal Treatment is set in an alternate reality, the world is almost the same as this one, but Alaska is it's own country and has its own rulers. And boy are they a bunch of nuts! The characters are not as fully fleshed out as I prefer them to be, but I loved all of them. They each have their own quirky personality and odd habits. I want to take them all home with me! The only negatives I found were the profanity used and the fairly explicit love scenes. As I don't really mind the language, and I blip over the love scenes if they're too much for my delicate constitution. Books don't make me literally laugh out loud very often, but this one did. Actually, all of MaryJanice Davidson's books do. Every time! Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

In a world nearly identical to ours, the North won the Civil War, Ben Affleck is the sexiest man alive, and Russia never sold Alaska to the U.S. Instead, Alaska is a rough, beautiful country ruled by a famously eccentric royal family, and urgently in need of a bride for the Crown Prince. But they have no idea what they're in for when they offer the job to a feisty commoner. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

Overall, it's a funny, sexy read, though I probably won't go back for the other two "Alaskan Royal Family" books by this author. (
