A good post apocalyptic story. The world building was excellent and my favorite thing about this book. The cast of characters were also well done. One negative thing, I found the prose to be a bit on the verbose side. Several times my mind wondered and I had to reread a section because I could not remember what I had just read. Normally I love overly descriptive prose; however, in this case less would have been better. ( ![]() Good book. Besides a pair of Deu Ex Machina, and the ridiculos concept that a surviving poblation will not try to renovate the tech that keep it alive, the boook is great... tons of character development and multiple interlooped histories. I really liked this book. It is a great story and very well written. There are many good stories within the story and the general plot is very well done for an alternate universe type book...it is beieveable. I am anxious for the next one to be released. This started out really great, but I found this book slowed down and got really hard to get into around the mid point. One of the few books I actually didn't finish. I own this book for a few years now and did find 963 pages a bit too daunting but winter in lockdown seemed the best time to get through it. It's not that I didn't enjoy it and I also made it through fairly swiftly however, I think it's a vanity project of the writer. The first chapter was the best and it could have been written in half the pages without loosing too much. For the amount of time spend on the book the characters were a bit too flat or not alive long enough, the scope was too narrow and overall too many dead ends or loose strings. Perhaps they will be picked up in the second and third part of the trilogy but by now I find I have spend enough time with the story and are not inclined to read the rest. Best quotes: The things of your life arrived in their own time, like a trian you had to catch. We live, we die. Somewhere alogn the way, if we're lucky, we may find someone to help lighten the load.
I turned The Passage's pages feverishly to find out what happened next. Cronin leaps back and forth in time, sprinkling his narrative with diaries, e-mail messages, maps, newspaper articles and legal documents. Sustaining such a long book is a tough endeavor, and every so often his prose slackens into inert phrases (“his mind would be tumbling like a dryer”). For the most part, though, he artfully unspools his plot’s complexities, and seemingly superfluous details come to connect in remarkable ways. When all's said and done, The Passage is a wonderful idea for a book that – like too many American TV series – knows how good it is and therefore outstays its welcome. There are enough human themes (hope, love, survival, friendship, the power of dreams) to raise it well above the average horror, but its internal battle between the literary and the schlock will, I T MAY already have the Stephen King stamp of approval and the Ridley Scott movie-script treatment but American author Justin Cronin's 800-page blockbuster The Passage comes from humble beginnings. "Every book starts somewhere and this came from a dare of a nine-year-old child," he says of his daughter Iris, who wanted a story where a young girl saves the world.
A security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment that only six-year-old orphan Amy Harper Bellafonte can stop. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
