Fantasy. Fiction. Romance. HTML:

Enitan is a simple clerk in the stationary shop now owned by his stepfather. He spends his days cleaning and tending the inventory, wishing he could have more of a presence in the shop, or leave to start his own somewhere else. Then a stranger walks into the shop, seeking ink, and Enitan finds himself swept into a world to which he does not belong, and wishing for things even more impossible than a shop of his own.

An enjoyable if predictable short story. ( )

Not bad

I've noticed I prefer Ms Derr's longer stories that focus on 1-2 characters only. The shorter ones leave me wanting for more, and those with to many main characters feel rushed at times.

That said, this is a fun little piece. ( )

The characters were wonderfully created, though it would've been nice to know a little more about the prince. I also felt the ending was a little abrupt. All sorts of interesting things were revealed about Enitan but we never found out what came of it. I'm sure Rem and Enitan ended up happily ever after but I wanted to know what happened to the shop and how Enitan handled his new life. Also there was very little conflict from Enitan's 'evil' stepfather. Enitan had no problem getting to the 'ball' and no one seemed to notice he was gone. It seemed a little too easy for what was supposed to be a Cinderfella story. Over all it was a quick sweet read but a little too short and the ending was not quite satisfying. However it's not a bad thing to want a story to be longer and that's what I was looking for here, a little more closure. ( )

I read this one with absolutely no idea what it was about beforehand. I wanted to try something new and not quite as mainstream and since lulu press is a self-publishing company I figured I'd get what I want. Interesting story and characters, romance developping at an appropriate pace as well and a good dose of angst. It does indeed suffer from cinderfella syndrome but this is actually a blessing for me who likes it. I have rather traditional taste I suppose, and this was a nice simple enjoyable read for me. ( )
