It's okay.
Other woman drama.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
Hero doesn't show interest in his ex mistress once married.

Gillyanne owns property that Connor and three other lords want, they force her to choose one of them after a brief siege. Connor is remote and has funny ideas about how to treat a lady wife and Gillyanne quickly disabuses him of most. Lots of fun moments, especially her ability to let the keep know when dinner is about ot be served from her vocalness in the bedroom. It's not a smooth ride as people plot against them and Connor's funny ideas trip him up, but a great read.

I read this for a second time and it is still a very enjoyable historical romance with lots of action that moved right along and included some humor. I especially liked the heroines reasonable and assertive behavior. When Gillyanne visits her keep she finds three neighboring lairds including Sir Connor wanting to marry her.

A big fan of Hannah Howell’s and having read some of the other Highland stories led me to read of Gillyanne Murray, the daughter of Eric and Bethia whom I met in the Highland Promise. Having just finished Highland Honor a few weeks ago I was excited to read Highland Bride.

So, after writing up a few of my other reviews, I grabbed a cup of tea and sat down to read Highland Bride.

I wasn't disappointed. Sometimes it is nice to have a gentle romance that makes you smile to rid you of the things that go on in our own day to day lives. And that is just what Ms. Howell does with her wonderful way of pulling you the reader into the heart of her stories.

Gillyanne finding that at the age of twenty-one, she is considered to be past the age of marrying. Figures she just may have to take fate into her own hands. Although she has attempted to attract someone to her dismay she hasn’t as of yet. She longs to find that happiness and love she sees in her married cousins and friends. But, thinking she is unattractive to the opposite sex she decides that she must do something to change it.

Maybe she just isn’t tall enough, or has to many curves or maybe the slight difference in eye color is unappealing to most men.

Connor MacEnroy has been laird of Deilcladach since he was fifteen. After his parents death and a very long feud with the other clans. For most fifteen year-olds it was allot to take on. He had to not only raise his siblings and manage the survival of his clansman; he also had to rebuild Deilcaldach. When Connor and the other two neighboring lairds find that an unmarried woman owns the keep that is by them, they ask the king for permission to control said keep.

This brings us to Gillyanne deciding to take fate into her own hands and visit her dowry. Ald-dabhach is a small keep that was gifted to her by a loving uncle. Not knowing what she would find she had no way of knowing that there would be three neighboring lairds vying for her attention. When she refused all of them they in turn decided to attack her keep. She also realizes that although she is able to withstand the individual attacks that if they ever decided to join forces she would be in big trouble. These making her decide that to keep peace she must choose one.

Because she found Connor appealing when they first met her decided that he would be her best choice. After she marries Connor the fun begins. You will just have to read this fast paced, delightful book to find out the things that happen to Gillyanne and Connor once they are married.

Gillyanne finally finds that happiness and love that she thought she would never feel, but is it just one sided? Connor also, has found someone who was able to break down his defenses that were in place forever. But can he give into Gillyanne and find true happiness?

Ms. Howell has once again brought characters so alive that you actually feel as if you are a part of the story. Making you feel everything. A gentle, compassionate love story and must read for all those that love simple romance. It will keep you spellbound from the beginning to the end and always wanting more. ( )

Hannah Howell has it all: a wicked sense of humor (which made me laugh until tears came). a knack for creating characters that have great depth, and an ability to craft all the components of a great love story. Watching Gillyanne slowly warm the heart of her Scottish Laird was delightful as well as truly satisfying. Highland Bride is a keeper. ( )
