This book, Frog in Space, is a science fiction book about a frog who gets taken up into space by an alien ship. When the ship lands on Earth to get water the frog is accidentally mistaken as the alien child. The frog goes on an adventure through space as the aliens wonder who this creature could be. Finally returning to Earth, Wilma the frog is left to ponder the reality of her voyage. I had mixed feelings about this book after reading it. I liked the illustrations because they enhanced the story. There were times when I was reading that I had to refer to the illustration to confirm that I knew what was going on. For example, when things started to tip in the ship. I had to clarify that it was because the ship was losing control and the illustration confirmed that. I didn’t like how the plot. There was little to no suspension or tension in the story. I could guess what was going to happen and there was no action. The frog got sucked up and when the parents realized it wasn’t their child they swapped them back out. There is no action there. To me, the story was dull and a little boring. The main message of the story is always be thankful for what you have. On land the frog had space to hop around and flies to eat. However, on the ship he was confined and had only one fly to eat. Great science fiction book about a frog named Wilma who accidentally gets picked up by a family of aliens. Wilma has some adventures in space before the family realizes that Wilma his not their child. They return Wilma to earth who is not sure if it was all a dream and the alien is reunited with his family. Wilma is accidentally picked up by aliens who believe that they have taken their offspring with them into space. They take Wilma back to earth, but not until Wilma has had an adventure in space. This was a cute story. My 2 year old enjoyed the story and the illustrations. curriculum connection - make up a story about a trip into space. what things would you see? Age Appropriateness: Primary Genre: Science Fiction Review: This was a good example of science fiction, because the frog encounters aliens from space and is abducted by mistake and taken into space. Comments: -Study frogs with students -Compare what is true and false about space or compare the alien frog life and the earth frog life -Brainstorm what would have happened if the frogs never returned to their real home. Plot: "Frog in Space" had a conflict plot, because the two frogs were put in the wrong homes and they did not know what to do. So at the height of the conflict, the frogs were distressed in their wrong home. Media: Watercolor wash and Colored Pencils Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
