In my opinion this is a great book for very young kids. The language of the text is patterned very well that it is easy to follow along. For example, everyday starting with ten days and nine nights, the little girl does an activity, then the page ends with how many days and nights are left. A specific example is, I practice. I have six days and five nights.” The main character is a young girl who is about to receive a new sibling. She is a well-developed, believable character as she prepares for her new sister to arrive. For example, it says “Grandma makes a little pink dress.” This allows young readers to relate if their mother may be having a new baby or if their family may be adopting a child like this little girl and they may become an older brother or sister to a new born. The illustrations enhance the story and the mood of how excited the little girl is for her new sister. For example, it says “At last! I have no days and no nights.” The image that goes with this text is of the little girl running with her arms wide open to her mother who is now holding her baby sister. You can feel the joy and happiness of the little girl as she now has someone new to play with and take care of. The message of this story is that even if you are not directly related to someone, they can still become family. Family is important as long as the ones you love are around. ( )

This book is so cute! It is about a big sister awaiting the arrival of her new baby sister. But the best part is the baby sister is being adopted! I think the main message of this book for a child could be that no matter if the person is blood related or not they can be family. Adoption is a wonderful thing, and it has the ability to give a child a life of love that they could of missed out on if a specific family didn't think about adoption. It also shows a different perspective, because you can always get the perspective of the parents, but the soon to be brothers and sister also have feelings, and this book depicts this soon to be big sisters feelings wonderfully. This book is a countdown to the big day, hence the title of this book. It is an easy read, but has a larger picture that it's reader should focus on. Adoption is a dream of mine someday so I really loved this book. ( )

I had mixed feelings after reading this book. I felt like the idea behind the story was good, but the pace and language itself was very boring. On each page it was a countdown till the main character's mother brought home her baby sister. This can be helpful to younger children when they begin to learn about numbers. On the final day of waiting I could see the excitement the main character had, this was depicted really well by the author. The language wasn't very descriptive, there wasn't much to the actual story. We also, only saw what the child felt and not how her parent's felt about the new child. The message of this story is it takes a whole village to raise a child. Everyone prepared for the babies arrival. There is a lot that goes into adoption. This book can be shared with children who have been adopted or have siblings who are. ( )

I thought this book was really cute and informational for someone who was about to become a big brother or sister. The book was counting down ten days until this little girl became a big sister and all of the things this little girl was preparing to do, this book was also a book about adoption so for children who are adopted and/or getting an adopted sibling this would be a great book to have! I really liked this story. It was about a young girl who was counting down the days and nights until her new baby sister came home. At the beginning of the story I did not know what she was counting down to. Then as the story progressed the reader found out what it was the young girl was counting down to. This story was fun to read and it was touching to read about a young girl's excitement for her new baby sister to arrive. I know I was not that excited when my sisters were born. ( )
