Great book from start to finish, very well paced. Very well described strategy of war games made this book very interesting over and above the plot which stands up very well. I would recommend it to anyone. ( ![]() Tiffany recommended this to me as a book that lets you inside a character's head. I don't usually like Sci-Fi, but this was interesting. *original rating: 4 stars I loved this book when I was 14. I still love it now. I just wish Orson Scott Card wasn't such a giant homophobic jerk-wagon because now I feel guilty that I paid for my copy. Twice. And I feel worse for having recommended to everyone in the multiverse. This book was incredibly easy to read as the writing is very simple. I liked the story's premise but there were still many questions left unanswered. I also felt disasocciated from Ender when he became commander of the Dragon Fleet, it was as if you didn't know him anymore. I also felt Peter and Valentine, as well as most of the other characters, were superfluous. I'm not a fan of space travel/battle so the strategy heavy fighting scenes bored me a bit. I also felt that considering the 'buggers' were a main reason for everything Ender went through, we should have read more about them. Fun YA science fiction. A boy helps save the earth when he thinks he is just doing simulations. I've read a few others by the author but have not listed them.
I am aware that this sounds like the synopsis of a grade Z, made-for-television, science-fiction-rip-off movie. But Mr. Card has shaped this unpromising material into an affecting novel full of surprises that seem inevitable once they are explained. The key, of course, is Ender Wiggin himself. Mr. Card never makes the mistake of patronizing or sentimentalizing his hero.
