Lulu is tired of hearing that she is too little, so decides to venture off to "far, far away" from her momma and the barnyard. Luckily two pig friends can usually be seen keeping an eye on Lulu as she runs into a sheep, a cow and a horse, all whom tell her she is too little to be out there alone!

I think that's my problem with the book right there - everyone telling Lulu she was too little to do this or do that or to be here or there. You cannot tell a child this over and over and expect them to be ok with it or feel good. I think books reinforcing what a child CAN do would be a much better selection.

Take the book for what it is though and perhaps use it as a springboard to a worthwhile conversation with your too little toddler. Bogan's illustrations are adorable. ( )

Lulu the little chick is tired of being little and babied. She decides to run far, far away, every time she meets a new animal they make fun of her size and she decides it is not far, far away enough. Finally, after running away to a far, far place she gets scared by a crow and wants her mommy, who lo and behold has been right behind her the entire time. ( )
