S'està carregant… The Host: A Novelde Stephenie Meyer
![]()
Read for the sci-fi not the romance. Almost quit early in the book but kept going. I did enjoy the new take on the age old - two minds one body scenario. ( ![]() I have tried this one around 5 or 6 times and I just need to realize it is not for me. I’ve never read any of her other novels, and I’m still not really interested in her Twilight series, but this was an incredible novel. The concept is one I haven’t yet come across - the closest being yeerks from K.A. Applegate’s Animorphs - Though of course there was none of the romance and a more aggressive alien race come to earth. I liked how eventually you could see different possible endings to this, but up until the last second, you couldn’t be sure which ending she’d choose because all equally could have fit with how the characters and story had progressed. I cried a lot towards the end. Though the epilogue touched me and left wanting more but at the same time glad she left it where she did. novel In all the planets she had lived on, all the species she had lived as, Wonderer had never before experienced such emotion, such violence and such resistance as she did with her human host. It wasn't supposed to be this way, the human hosts previous consciousness was supposed to fade away. But this human Melanie, her new host, wasn't leaving without a fight. Melanie was a constant presence in her mind, a loud, angry and strong presence, trapped inside her who refused to fade away, refused to give up her secrets, refused to let go of the person she once was, of the people she loved most. Wonderer knew all this, felt all this and couldn't help being influenced by her hosts body, couldn't help loving those Melanie had loved. The choice to venture off alone to find the humans that Melanie and she both love is really no choice at all, despite the fact that the humans are dangerous, violent creatures. But when she finds these humans they both love, they see only the monster who has taken their Melanie from them. Although Melanie still exists inside her, is it really possible for Wonderer to go on living as two people. The Host is a science fiction romance that goes the heart of what it is to be human. A love story at the end of the world, where humans as we know them are being hunted to extinction, their very consciousness being replaced by alien souls. This is the story of one souls experience of humanity, the violence, the emotions, the irrational natures and the love that is the only hope humans have left.
The worst, and paradoxically the best, that can be said about The Host is that there is nothing really terrible about it. It did not cause me to twitch and groan at twisted metaphors or bad imagery (someday we will sit down and discuss the delights of Jackie Collins, shall we?). At no point did I scream “Get an editor, you moron!” as I’ve been known to do while reading… well, let’s call them Stephen K. and Anne R. Lack of internal logic did not cause me to hurl the book against the wall in frustration and disappointment. But, adequately written as it was, I can’t see myself recommending it to any of my BFFs, at least not to those who’ve done me any favors. Prachtig, meeslepend verhaal.
The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. But Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves--Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.--From publisher description. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
