As the title indicates, this YA novel takes the form of a diary written by a Doctor Who fan: twelve-year-old David, who lives in northern England in the 80s. It's definitely a book aimed at youngsters, and not really the kind with prose that's equally engaging for adults, but I found it reasonably appealing, anyway. It certainly captures the feeling of adolescence very well, and David is a character I can relate to. I didn't really discover Doctor Who until I was a few years older than him (although when I did, it quickly developed into a love that has lasted into my 40s with no signs of abating). But at twelve, I had that same kind of obsession over Star Trek, and I was the same kind of awkward introvert. I'd like to think think that geeky kids of today might find it worth reading; after all, it's always good to know someone understands. ( ) Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
It's the 1980s and David has just started secondary school. He's becoming a teenager, while hanging onto the rituals of childhood, particularly his addiction to DOCTOR WHO: sharing the books with his best friend and neighbour, Robert, and watching the TV show. But adolescence is as strange and alien to David as anything the good Doctor encountered, so he's mystified when Robert begins to reject his hero in favour of girls, free weights and new music. Is it time for David to make a choice and move on too? Read by the author, this is a touching tale of fandom, friendship and the tricky transition from childhood to adulthood. A moving and evocative story about a boy finding his place in the world, set against a backdrop of Bowie, Blackpool and Breville toasters. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
