Now I have read all three of de Blasi's books about living in Italy and I am sorry there are no more. Her writing is luscious and thoughtful; her spirit generous and wild; and her recipes enticing. Absolutely lovely all round. ( ) De Blasi composes her stories like a fine meal, stories of her life in Italy and adventures in gastronomy. Each chapter woven and shared. The end of the story is always gratifying..like dessert...but yet you desire more! She writes of the joys of life and discovery. She has a great sense of humor. You just want to crawl into her books and join her. Lovely reads! This was a real disappointment. I love Orvieto; it's beautiful, set way up on this vertical rock, and it has a fascinating Etruscan and Roman history. De Blasi lived there for several years waiting for a ballroom to be restored, and doesn't even describe or explore the town in this memoir. This book is about that time in her life: there are shades of those English TV shows about people trying to buy property in Italy (gosh Italian bureaucracy is impenetrable, no one does anything on time!) with little new or startling. Mainly it is about cooking and food, and her relationships. There's an assumption you've read her three earlier memoirs (I haven't, and it wasn't clear it was necessary when I picked up the book) and she dives in without describing or giving background or context about who people are. I guess I really wanted the book [a:Jan Morris|13091|Jan Morris|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1284016410p2/13091.jpg] might have written about this city.
