Short and bring on the angst! Another year has come and gone and things are not quite so rosy for our summer crowd. We knew Susannah was sick last year, and with her gone, everyone is having trouble coping. We ended “The Summer I turned Pretty” with Conrad and Belly finally, maybe being a thing, but with Conrad’s mother passing away, of course that’s going to throw things into turmoil. It was interesting the way the love triangle between the brothers began to slowly grow during this one. Conrad is the dark, mysterious one Belly has always loved, but you have to feel sorry for Jeremiah, the sweet neglected kid who never gets the girl and seems to fade out of the spotlight every time his brother is around. Definitely want to read book 3!

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader. ( )

Great sequel but I feel something was missing so it wasn't as good as the first one. ( )

Second time reading this one, holds up as a good choice for warm weather reading.

If you enjoyed the dynamics of the love triangle in the first book, you’ll find them just as entertaining and exasperating here as they indulge in a lot of the same behavior, Conrad with his insistence on pushing Belly away, Belly refusing to be pushed away, and Jeremiah seemingly well aware that Belly will always prefer Conrad yet pursuing her anyway. This takes a turn I don’t love, whether you’ll love or hate it depends on your boy of choice.

Also much like the first book, the deeper emotional moments stem from parental drama. The boys relationship with their dad isn’t explored a ton but the scenes in both present day and flashback have great intensity and tension. And Belly’s mom emerged as my favorite character in this one, although she doesn’t have her finest hour ever with her daughter, the high points of the book for me pretty much all belonged to Laurel, telling it like it is and taking charge. Am I going to read all three books in this series in one day?

I think I am.

Finishing the middle book of a trilogy is the best and worst part - you're invested in the characters and you want to know what happens next, but what if the author fucks up the ending???

Some thoughts:

- Conrad, get your shit in a pile. I'm getting real sick of you and if you keep acting like this then I hope Belly moves the fuck on and gets over you already,

- Jeremiah, my sweet cinnamon roll, you are too good for this series (too pure). Find a lovely, non-Belly girl and get on with your life.

- Belly, untangle yourself from Conrad ffs. Finish high school, meet literally any other guy in the world apart from these brothers and move on.

(I am willing to bet ten thousand dollars that the last book is not, in fact, about these three getting on with their lives and leaving each other alone.) ( )

I like Belly - but sometimes she really is just stupid. In the followup to the first book in the series, Belly and gang are mourning the loss of Suzanne and Belly's romance with Conrad seems to finally be moving out of the realm of girlish daydreams and into reality. But who does Belly really love? the boy or the dream? and is the real Conrad someone who loves her back. I sort of just wanted both boys to drop her hard! But teen angst and attraction are real and that is the saving grace of this character. ( )

5 out of 5 stars!!! I loved this continuation of Belly's story! Especially with getting to read some of Jeremiah's point-of-view! With the way the author left the book I think there will be another one, I hope, and I can't wait to see what that "a couple years later" part was about and who with!! Maybe we'll even get to read a bit from Conrad since he is one very moody character I'm curious as to what he's really thinking about. In truth ... I like both brothers and I can't make up my mind as to which one I want Belly to be with. In some ways I wish she could just have them both ... but I know it's not that kind of story either. LOL. This was a great story about the meaning of friendship, how sometimes that friendship can evolve into something more, what brothers or even best friends will do for one another, losing a person who meant quite a bit to you, and the power of teenage romance -- what's true about it and what we just want to see in rose colored glasses.
