S'està carregant… The Atlantis Complex (2010)de Eoin Colfer
I may be biased but IMHO this is the weakest book in the series. I was positively gleeful to start reading another Fowl book, what with The Time Paradox being the most exciting and incredibly outstanding. Sadly I crash-landed in a not so superb next adventure. Somehow the Paradox ended on the ending note for me: good story, strong sentiments and a confession of all worldly (and underworldly) deeds. This one wasn't bad. But I found it strongly lacking. Like an unfulfilled promise, somehow I love Artemis Fowl stories....I think there is another one out....I better go check! I started this series about 8 years ago and listened to the first one, which I think helped to get me hooked. I loved the new story line and poor Artemis getting The Atlantis Complex. I lost track of where I was in the Artemis Fowl series. I found it again! Yeah! By the way, Holly is my kids' tooth fairy....just saying. This book was idiotic. I can just see Colfer's spurned lover/annoyed teenage kid/pet monkey laughing at this magnificent trick (s)he managed to pull. (Namely, writing a book in his name and publishing it.) If you, like me, enjoyed the first installments in the Artemis Fowl world, and thought "oh, Artemis making a fool out of himself would be funny!"... Then boy, are you NOT in for a treat. Everything, and I mean everything, comes off as contrived and stupid - no, moronic. Believe me. I might read the next one if I was feeling masochistic or hopeful, but honestly, I hope I don't. Whoops, I just puked over this whole review, and it still stinks less than the book. Sadly I did not enjoy the ending, maybe I was too young when I first read it so I didn't understand?
I suspect that the central joke worked better in synopsis than it plays out in the novel. Orion is funny but I'm not sure that he is funny enough for the trade-off – which requires filling the hole left by Artemis's absence on sick leave. True, it means that other characters, in particular the splendidly feisty Holly Short, are pushed to the fore. On the other hand, Orion is a buffoon, and while you may laugh, you may also, like Holly, feel like hitting him and fervently wish that the real Arty would hurry back. An army of fairy space probes have returned to Earth reprogrammed to destroy Atlantis and only Artemis Fowl can stop them. As he races to save the subaquatic city, he must also combat an onslaught of obsessive compulsive and delusional disorders, both byproducts of prodigious intellect and immense stress.
