A decent start to an exceptional series. This was certainly not the best of the series, but it starts the journey off in a compelling-enough way to make me want to keep reading through the rest of the books (for the third time). ( ![]() The audio version of the series sets a gold standard on production quality and on how to transform an image based medium into audio. The problem I had was probably related to the original medium. There are many plot lines only loosely connected. So when listening from start to finish you don't get the natural breaking points in the same way. Thus feeling it doesn't hold up as one release. If it stopped after the first plot line stopped it would have been an easy 5/5. The rest of the plot lines didn't hold up as well for me. I read all of The Sandman a long time ago in various spates of sitting on the floor at Barnes and Noble waiting for family to finish shopping, so I'm just starting to come back to it now that I am a real person who can buy comic books when he wants. I don't really know what to write here, because it's The Sandman! It's such a huge Thing in comic books that I don't really know what to say. The art is good, the story is cool, Gaiman does a good job of playing on old comic book stuff (Doctor Destiny is recast as being TERRIFYING instead of a lame Silver Age villain, there's a sort of symbiotic thing between Dream and the Golden Age Sandman - I have to track down the Sandman Mystery Theater books where they crossed over). Go read it! I've read this (and all the volumes) many times, but I didn't realize how gruesome it was until a friend thumbed through it for the first time. Really not the best in the series. 20 Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

An occultist attempting to capture Death to bargain for eternal life traps her younger brother, Dream, instead. After his 70 year imprisonment and eventual escape, Dream, a.k.a. The Sandman, goes on a quest for his lost objects of power. Author Neil Gaiman creates an unforgettable tale of the forces that exist beyond life and death by weaving ancient mythology, folklore and fairy tales with his own distinct narrative vision.
