OMG I want my own copy of this. A little girl is grosseed out by her librarian's enthusiasm for books, until she finds a gross book (Shrek) that sparks her own enthusiasm. My favorite part was when the girl asks her mom if they can move away and the mom says that won't work because there's a book-crazed librarian in every town. Awesome. ( )

This seems to be a common plotline in picture books celebrating teachers: A reluctant reader discovers the joy of books through the tireless work of a passionate (often eccentric) teacher. Our main character, Missy, eventually learns to love reading when she discovers the right book - Shrek! I liked Miss Brooks; I, too, used to dress in costumes for read alouds when working in a school library and found that it really does seem to get young children excited about reading. This book would be a good read aloud before a book character dress-up day. ( )

This is the story of a very passionate librarian that expresses her love for books and hopes to pass on that love to the children she is teaching. However Missy doesn't believe she will ever find a book that she loves. When book weeks rolls around and all the children are tasked with sharing their favorite book Missy has a hard time but eventually find a book that she can be excited about. I love the message of this book and the book that Missy chooses for book week. I enjoyed the passion of the librarian and the fact that she successfully reached a child that believed she would never love a book. ( )
