This book does a really good job at representing a different culture while also showing the common difficulties that come with having siblings. After the older sister is forced to take her younger sister with her to a birthday party there is quite an argument over a party favor (the big red lollipop) that the younger sister steals from the older sister. It then shifts to a couple years later where now the younger sister is now being forced to take the youngest sister with her to a party but the older sister steps in and says she shouldn't have to. Then when the sister gets home from the party she hands her sister a big lollipop that she got from the party... This is a beautiful book to show students the importance for forgiveness. ( )

This story would be a good fit for primary grades. This is a story of a girl who's mom forces her to bring along her little sister to her friends birthday party. Once at the party the little sister cries, eats all of her candy, and is all around embarrassing. The sisters are at odds throughout the rest of the story until the little sister needs support from her oldest sister.
This would be a good story for units on kindness or families. ( )

This book highlights differences between Arab-American,and American customs. When Rubina is invited to a birthday party, she is dismayed when her mother insists she must take her yogrunger sister. In a few years, her sister is invited to a party and Rubina convinces her mother that she should not have to take her youngest sister, delightful illustrations. ( )

This book is great for kids and families! Trying to share with siblings is a relatable struggle, so this would be book to read with younger kids. The book shares the messages of sharing and being compassionate, which I think is a wonderful message to spread with little ones! ( )

Rubina is so excited to get invited to her first birthday party by one of her classmates. Rubina gets shot down by her parents when they tell her she needs to take her little sister along with her. Rubina is so upset but agrees. At the party, the party favor to return were red lollipops that rubina absolutely loved! “Nobody takes their little sister to a birthday party!” ( )
