Synopsis: 'Jamie Swift just wants to keep her beloved Beaumont Gazette afloat, even if she occasionally has to sell the furniture to keep the town newspaper running. Having her financial partner come to check on her is the last thing she needs – particularly when that partner turns out to be multi-millionaire Max Holt, handsome, charming, and pathologically flirtatious. But someone wants Max in town even less than Jamie does – and they’ve got the guns and dynamite to prove it…'
Review: Glad to see Max in a series.
Good book with an interesting storyline
2.5 stars - Fun, outlandish, "romantic mystery" set in the South. Millionaire playboy falls for poor but feisty newspaper publisher who is engaged to safe but boring tax lawyer with a rich power-hungry mother. Throw in some colorful characters and it's just a romp. Weak plotting. Trite dialogue. But it's still fun for the beach.
Set in Beaumont, SC, Jamie Swift runs the local newspaper and meets her silent partner, Max Holt. Some dirty politics, and his brother in law ot Frankie Fontana a former wrestler is running for office....Lots of drama and romance...not one of favorites in this series.

He lives life in the fast lane and she's along for the ride-with no brakes.... Jamie Swift has one priority in quiet Beaumont, South Carolina: running the local newspaper. Romance runs second. But with the arrival of her silent partner, the notoriously mysterious and sexy Maximillian Holt, Jamie's life gets shaken up. Max claims he's here to give his brother-in-law a vote of confidence. A former wrestler, Frankie Fontana's now taking his shots in the political ring. Beaumont could use a mayor with scruples, but what it gets is a crime-and what Jamie gets is a story that's taking her for a ride on the wild side, complete with two assassins, a washed-up stripper, and an insane poacher. Between a spray of bullets and a fast getaway could it get any more romantic-or dangerous? Max and Jamie are betting their lives on a long shot.

The Full series seems to be a transitional series for Janet Evanovich. The first volume was published in 1989. More than a decade later, she went back to the series and brought in co-author Charlotte Hughes. The second book brings in a new set of characters but keeps the smalltown atmosphere. Our heroine this time is Jamie Swift, the young publisher of a struggling newspaper in Beaumont, South Carolina. She has a new silent partner, Max, who comes to town to check out the paper he intends to rescue (why never made much sense) and helps Jaimie solve a murder and save her brother-in-law’s political career. A slow news day, no doubt. Romance and thriller violence ensue. The clever kid from the first novel shows up to save the day, and, oh yes, Max has a portable, almost sentient AI he calls Muffin. I expected David Hasselhoff and KITT to show up any minute. 3 stars. ( )
