It was a book about family tradition and how braiding is such a big part of a young African American girls family. It was a very easy read and I will definitely be using in my classroom. ( ) Braids! tells the story of Ashley, a young girl who does NOT want her hair braided. After a mad dash around the house, Ashley's mom catches her and braids her hair. After that, Ashley's grandmother catches HER daughter and braids her hair. Even Ashley's teacher gets a turn! The book does not have any kind of profound message, but it's really funny and something I think most people with long hair can relate too (I wouldn't know because I've had short hair my whole life). This book was adorable! I am really glad I came upon it. There is a wonderful theme of patience; there is also an important message of appreciating and embracing your cultural identity. I loved the humor in this book. The author tells a story of an African American girl who dislikes the long process of getting her hair braided. The plot is meaningful because it talks about the cultural tradition of hair braiding, and also lighthearted because the characters are comical and likable. Braiding hair is a big part of the African American culture and it's become a point of social tension. I like the way this book tackles the issue at the end when it says that some people just don't look good in braids. The book isn't saying that Ashley's teacher looks bad with braids because she's white it's just because certain people shouldn't braid their hair. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

It's Saturday morning and Ashley just wants to go outside and play. Who cares if her hair is messy? Mom does! Ashley hates it when her mom puts braids in her hair. It looks nice when it's done, but she has to sit still for hours while her mom brushes and pulls and braids: back and forth, up and down, round and round. It takes ALLLL day, and Ashley never has time to do anything fun. That is, until Grandma comes for a visit, and they decide that it's time to braid MOM'S hair! Robert Munsch is the father of two girls who did NOT like it when he put braids in their hair. This story will appeal to every kid who hates it when Mom or Dad fusses over their appearance!
