Great start, but the ended was a little too happy-go-lucky.

Fae's Captive is an interesting novella, and I think that instead of dividing it into a couple of books, it would have been smarter to keep it as one novel. That is the reason that I deducted a star from my rating. It is also the first time I borrowed the second installment of the series right away because I want to find out what will happen with Leander & Taylor living us in such a cliffhanger.
Leander is a very lovable alpha hero that is willing to die and spare Taylor's life. I loved the primary and secondary characters. The plot is good, although it needed a description or construction of the most developed fae world. Even so, I enjoyed it and kept my interest to continue the whole story.
I can understand that people picked this book because they thought it would have a lot of steaming sex. Well, I believe we will get it further on, but it didn't deduce from the enjoyment for me.
I like world-building because we learn about it at the same time with our heroine. A world where witches and strange creatures roam, and magic is everywhere. A world where few speak her language, and everywhere she turns, someone wants to harm her—a world where a Fae king takes her under his wing, claiming her as his own.
Looking forward to continuing with the series.

This had a tiny bit of Snow White overtones - it's the story of three girls at private school all with nasty stepmoms. The three of them bond over their awful step-parents and decide that they'll reclaim their fates, but they don't succeed for different reasons. Ultimately they realize that however awful their stepmothers are, they've created their own sort of family with each other.

This one really appealed to me and though of novella length captured my imagination and attention almost instantly here.
This is the story of Taylor and Leander: Taylor a human girl finds herself transported to the world of the fae taking the place of another changeling.
Here she comes to the attention of Leander the Winter King who recognises her as his mate.
So as I mentioned this was short and I do believe this and the second book would have been better served as one complete volume rather than two novellas: still I really enjoyed this immensely and even though I don't often give the full five stars to such short reads this made enough of an impression on me that I just had to go with my gut here.
This was actioned packed and also had some interesting secondary characters introduced here.
I am starting the next instalment here immediately.
You can currently borrow this and book two with your KU subscription if you have one.

So Road to Winter continued the story right where we left off in book one.
After there interactions with the Obsidian witch Selena Tayler, Beth, Leander and Gareth resume their journey towards the winter kingdom.
There is obviously secrets surrounding Taylor: ones that she seems unaware of herself.
A mysterious ancient prophecy concerning Taylor so it will certainly be interesting to see where this is ultimately heading.
This does have a sensual and much more animalistic vibe than its predecessor: yet Taylor and Leander are still yet to seal the deal here.
Again this was an engaging fun short read: really about sixty to ninety minutes worth depending on your reading speed.
Really wish this were longer than the bite-size offerings we are given.
No mind this is still such an enjoyable endeavour.
This again ended on a cliffhanger so really hope the next instalment is out soon.

4 stars

One of my favorite authors recommended this book and am I happy she did because it was amazing. The story is unique, even beleble, making it impressive considering this is paranormal romance.fantastic characters with sass, determination, and adaptability. Great world building and secondary characters as well.

Looking forward to the next book. I just wish these were longer.

Beyond hooked

When one of your favorite authors recommends a book you read it. Right now I am cursing her because I'm hooked on this series and it just ended on a cliffhanger. I need to know what happens now. The tendon building between these characters is magnetic. There is humor and so many unknowns that I'm so thoroughly sucked in to this story that it is painful to find out what is going to happen.

Cannot wait for the next book. Like seriously, I cannot wait...

4.2 stars

Another great addition to this series. I'm falling more in love with Leander and Taylor. My only complaint is the length. I wish this had all been put together into a book or a duet.

When I saw this book and read the blurb I thought, “hmmm this should be exciting.” In my mind it was an action packed sort of evil step monster V.S. “once” innocent daughters but I guess I asked for too much.

The storyline was about the three step daughters Reena, Alice and Molly who each have their own version of a “evil” stepmothers and end up coming to a boarding school in Massachusetts where they become best friends. Consequentially, started a club called the Poison Apples where they help each other plan a way to take revenge on their stepmother. However, along the way they each find themselves a secret admirer.

I like the fact that this book has cliff hangers along the way to keep us readers flicking the page, but I think the plot could be stronger as we have been reading up to a point and waiting for an explosion but instead of bursting it just gives us a small poof.

I would recommend this book to teenager around 12-14 who want to take a break from anything serious and just want to sit down with some light weighted book for a period to relax.½

Light take on fractured fairy tale. Not very well written but has some general appeal.

I really liked this book its actually one of my favorites. I liked how the author used more than one main character. My favorite character in this book Is Reena. This book talks about how the 3 main characters all have evil stepmothers.

Raise your hand if you have an evil stepmother. Alice, Reena and Molly all do. For various reasons, each girl finds herself at a posh boarding school in rural Massachusetts and each tries her best to pretend she doesn’t come from a messed-up, broken family. When they find each other, they discover they no longer have to suffer alone or in silence, and the Poison Apples are born.

The book is narrated by all three teens in alternating chapters and divided roughly into three sections: the introduction of the characters and their stepmothers, arrival at boarding school, and the revenge plot over Thanksgiving break.

I loved the first section and Alice’s situation was pretty familiar. Her mother died of cancer and then she spent a couple of years moping around with her father. When her father meets someone new, she sincerely wants him to be happy. But when they announce they are getting married, Alice is shell-shocked. Stepmother-to-be R. convinces Alice’s father to sell his house and move into their own place – and Alice isn’t welcome. Instead, her father breaks the news that she’s to be sent to boarding school:

“Alice,” Dad said suddenly. “You’re not going to live with me and R. It doesn’t make sense.”

I stared into Dad’s eyes. Dad, I tried to silently implore him. I don’t want to freak out right now. I don’t want to give R. another reason to hate me. I don’t want you to think I’m a bad daughter. Just. Please. Don’t. Make. Me. Go.

The weird thing was, I could tell Dad was also trying to tell me something with his eyes. He was silently begging me to be okay with this. To not make him guilty. To not make him feel like he was marrying a psychopath who wanted him to send his daughter away… (p. 17-18)

Reena and Molly’s evil stepmothers come courtesy of divorce: Reena’s story is outrageously hilarious (it involves yoga and a penguin) and Molly’s is unfair and sad (it involves a lot of unpaid babysitting and a mental institution).

The boarding school section is peppered with fun wicked stepmother anecdotes and appearances but drags a bit when it veers off to explore other topics such as Reena’s crush on the English teacher.

And the end. Well, the end may surprise you! I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a stepmother or is a stepmother. Or anyone who just likes reading about stepmothers for that matter.

A good book. Archer creates believable characters with real flaws and problems. Reena, Alice and Molly come from totally different backgrounds, yet somehow all end up at the same boarding school. Each character grows and matures in a believable and often humorous fashion. This novel is definitely character driven rather than plot driven, so don’t look for lots of action. All in all, I would definitely recommend this novel to readers who enjoy quirky, fun characters.½

Poison Apples is the story of three girls, Reena, Alice, and Molly who each end up at a posh boarding school on the east coast after their fathers remarry evil women. They form a club and decide to get revenge on their evil stepmothers for ruining their lives. This is a cute, if not entirely unpredictable story. I disliked the cover (it was very VERY red) but it was a good book. It is kind of fractured fairy taleish, but not entirely because they don’t conform to the typical themes of fairy tales.

Alice, Reena, and Molly meet at an elite boarding school in Massachusetts. Though on the surface they don't seem to have anything in common, they eventually discover that they all have evil stepmothers. And when I say evil, I mean Evil with a capital E. The girls bond over their unfortunate family circumstances and form a club called the Poison Apples with the aim to get revenge on their stepmothers.

The story is told through the alternating voices of each girl and one of the things I loved best about this novel is how Archer manages to give each girl a totally different voice. And these girls are very different. I liked each of them for different reasons and I was rooting for them to become friends. Boarding school girl cattiness, a dreamy English teacher, a bit of adolescent romance... and you've got a fun chick-lit book perfect for light reading over the winter break.
