This book follows a dog, Dexter, in his pursuit of becoming a superhero. He trains hard and buys his suit and finally becomes Super dog. He goes around his neighborhood helping anyone he can, and he has never been happier. This book is a good read aloud for kindergarten or preschoolers as it is fun and easy to read.

Caralyn and Mark Buehner, the husband and wife author/illustrator team who produced the bestselling Snowmen at Night, as well as its many sequels, turn their attention to the classic English fairytale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in this colorful retelling. The narrative follows the traditional story for the most part, although Goldilocks herself is a jump-rope jumping, snappy rhyme-making little terror here, as she destroys Little Wee Bear's chair, eats all of his porridge, and falls asleep in his bed...

Although the Buehners' Goldilocks and the Three Bears isn't going to go on any best-of list, when it comes to fairytale picture books in general, or retellings of this tale in particular—my favorite in this regard is the version done by Jim Aylesworth and Barbara McClintock—I think it could provide reading/listening entertainment for younger audiences who enjoy this sort of fare. The artwork is colorful and immediate, and the narrative engaging. For myself, I prefer a more traditional, less wise-cracking Goldilocks, but tastes vary, and this telling has its place. I would recommend it to picture book readers looking for a slightly more contemporary-feeling version of this oft-told tale.

This isn't a thing here in VA, but snow on Halloween was for real in Omaha. I'm not entirely sure why we even had costumes, since they were under layers of coats and scarves. I appreciated that snowmen get to celebrate a different holiday than normal in this one.

First sentence: On the first night of Christmas
my dog chased up a tree
an elf with a present for me.
On the second night of Christmas
my dog chased up a tree
two tubing twins
and an elf with a present for me.

Premise/plot: Another spin on the song "Twelve Days of Christmas." This one stars ALL snow-creatures.

My thoughts: I really thought the narrative was clever. I didn't care for the illustrations. I almost wish it hadn't starred all snow-creatures. For example, if the dog had been a DOG instead of a snow-dog, I think it would have been funnier. The dog was VERY naughty!!! But I think this one could be very appealing to some readers.

Have you ever built a snowman and discovered the next day that his grin has gotten a little crooked, or his tree-branch arms have moved? And you've wondered . . . what do snowmen do at night?

It's Christmas Eve and people are snug in their beds, but something is stirring outside. The snowmen are preparing to celebrate! Under the glow of moonlight, all the snow families are slipping away to gather in the town square for a night of caroling, dancing, and an exciting visit from the snowman Santa Claus.

I thought this was a super creative book. It had really funny pictures and I enjoyed reading this. I thought it had a great backstory to why snowmen change shape overnight

When a little boy builds a snowman on Christmas Eve, he goes to bed wondering what snowmen do during the night. He dreams of them slipping away and gathering together to celebrate in their own way with holiday greetings, tree trimming, and a visit from Santa. Snowmen sure know how to have fun before returning to their homes on Christmas morning.

The Bottom Line: With bouncy rhyming verse and bright, clever paintings by a husband and wife team, this sequel to Snowmen at Night will be a seasonal favorite. Recommended holiday reading for little ones in Pre-K - Grade 1. As an added bonus, each illustration contains hidden figures. Can you find a cat, a rabbit, a Santa face, a T-rex, and a little brown mouse? Take your time, and take another look because the items are well hidden.

This book started off very similar to Mouse’s First Christmas, and much of the story is the same. The book rhymes and has a lack luster cadence, but still works. The story is sweet and covers many topics in a quick way, that gives the reading hope, and a bit of heart.

The Buehners are back with another Snowmen book, this time celebrating Halloween! When snow comes early, the children in this picturesque village make Halloween snowmen, dressing them up in seasonal costumes. When the children head home, the snowmen come alive and enjoy their own celebration, carving jack-o-lanterns, eating caramel apples, and listening to ghost stories. Although the cold snap ends, and the snowmen are melted by morning, they have left a friendly 'Happy Halloween' for their creators...

The fifth book from this husband and wife team about the nighttime adventures of a group of snowmen - previous titles include Snowmen at Night, Snowmen at Christmas, Snowmen All Year and Snowmen at Work - Snowmen at Halloween pairs a rhyming text describing the secret fun had by these snowy beings with luminous illustrations. As with previous titles, there is also a search-and-find element, as each page contains a hidden rabbit, cat and T-Rex to be found in the artwork. Although I did feel that the rhymes here were a little awkward, the entertaining premise, beautiful artwork, and interactive element will all make it a fun Halloween title for the picture-book set, I believe.

In this inventive take on the traditional Cinderella tale, Fanny Agnes is a sturdy farm girl with a big dream. Someday, she believes, she will marry a prince. When the town mayor announces he is throwing a grand ball, Fanny is convinced her time has come. She puts on her best calico dress and goes out to the garden so that she'll be ready when her fairy godmother arrives. As the seconds tick by, Fanny waits and waits. Finally, she hears a voice. It isn't her fairy godmother-but it is someone who will change her life forever.

This fiction text takes readers on a ride to see what snowmen really do at night. Kids love to make their predictions and if their predictions were correct!

What DO snowmen do at night? Turns out they get up to all kinds of adventures! Told in rhyme, with full-page illustrations (oil over acrylics). My only quibble is that they're all snowMEN - the only female characters are, of course, the "snowman mothers," serving cocoa to the snowmen playing games.

This is a charming book about the adventures of snowmen (and snow ladies, children, & pets) at night. The words have an easy rhythmic flow that my students love to listen to, "His hat had slipped, his arms drooped down, he really looked a fright", not to mention the new vocabulary I was able to introduce to my students. The illustrations are both captivating and humorous, and the details are outstanding. This story stirs up so many connections, conversations, and smiles! Great book!

Snowmen at night is a great book with talking about all the fun snowmen have at night while we are all sleeping! It's a very engaging book, and there are great chances for making predictions, visualizing, and inferring! For example, my students had to really think about why snowmen would be drinking ice cold cocoa! It's a fun read with kiddos and it gets their imaginations stirring!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears" by Caralyn Buehner is the story is about a little girl who wanders into someone's home. While she was there, she tries their porridge, she sits in their chairs and then goes upstairs to sleep in their beds. When the bears return home, they quickly realize someone has been there. After walking around their house, they walk into the room to find Goldilocks asleep in their bed!

The beautiful illustrations lets children's imaginations soar when they read about what snowmen do at night. When everyone goes to bed the snowmen come to life. They all have different jobs to do around the town. Children will love to imagine their snowmen helping out around their town at night, taking care of the town they live in. This is a great story to help children read the story through the pictures.

"Dex The Heart of a Hero," is a story about a dog with a dream of becoming a superhero. I love how Dex doesn't sit around and wait for his dream to happen, he makes it happen with hard work and dedication. Along his journey he has some friends that make fun of him and laugh at his dream but he doesn't let their opinions get in the way of what he wants. This is an awesome story about perseverance, dedication, and hard work.

Snowmen at Work If you were a snowman, what job would you choose? Ten years ago, on the publication of Snowmen at Night, we discovered the secret lives of snowmen. While we humans sleep, the snowmen go sledding, play baseball, and drink cocoa. But now it's revealed that snowmen don't just play all night--they have jobs to do, just like the parents of human kids. Dentists replace missing coal from snowman smiles while pet store owners help pair snowkids with their very own snowpuppy or snowfish to love. (amazon)
