Guillermo del Toro

Was für eine Geschichte... oder eigentlich ja sogar zwei. Und was für ein schönes, trauriges, berührendes, wunderbares Ende!
Als Hörbuch war es etwas anstrengend, weil die wörtliche Rede der Figuren extrem leise ist, zumindest auf Spotify. Aber das Kriegsgeschehen um die alte Mühle und parallel die Geschichte um den Raum und das Königspaar unter der Erde haben mich von der ersten Minute an gefesselt.

This could be an original take on the vampire tale....but it isn't. For as creative as del Toro's movies can be, this does not seem to have that. This was a slight improvement on the tv series, but it is a pretty dull read, even just listening to it. It could easily be a DNF, I just don't care if I walk out of the room with it playing for a few minutes.

Started well, was extremely filmic in style (which is suspect is wherer Del Toro comes in) reads like and episode of the X files. But is too long. Could have been edited better, the sheer amount of words begins to drag on the otherwise addictive narrative. It's the first novel with an actual clear cut narrative I've read in a while and this actually came as a welcome relief.

A lovely co-adaptation, though now I feel like I need to rewatch the film. The novel is a little too neat in connecting side characters' crossed paths, but it takes us along Strickland's journey to the heart of his darkness in the Amazon seeking Deus Branquia.
