A funny fantasy m/m romp that honestly had me grinning for most of the story. The leads were lovely and I adored them both. Their merry band honestly reminded me a lot of T.J. Klune's "The Lightning-Struck Heart", in all the good ways, and I liked their character dynamics.

There were what appeared to be some minor continuity issues with how Loth views the world but that might be down to different drafts/this being the work of two writers.

Overall, a cute, funny story. Look forward to book 2.… (més)

It's more a 3.5 star read than a 4. It's really not as good as the first book. Cute, and kind of funny in places, but also a bit boring, too. I support the egalitarianism and the different kinds of queer relationships, and Lars is quite sweet, and I love Gretchen and Hannah... but overall this was one was a bit of a miss for me. Part of that might be because it's missing the hurt/comfort that made me love "The Boy" and made "Red Heir's" more overly comedic portions a bit less... trite.

There's a decent plot, and humor, if you're into that, and if you just want a short fantasy story focusing on a polycule that's more cute with a decent amount of sex jokes than whumpy, this is the thing for you.… (més)

First of all, this deserves 5 stars for the premise alone. Bad boyfriends for hire to get your family off your back? Absolutely brilliant. I'd been wanting to read this one since it was first announced but kept putting it off because I knew I'd love it and I didn't want it to be over. Alas, as all good things, it came to an end, but not before making me laugh many times (and, at one memorable point, barking out a laugh so loud the cat hopped off my lap), a grand gesture, and all the up and down feels that come along with spending a long weekend with either your family or your "boyfriend"'s family.

Before I even finished this book, before I got to the climax, I already knew that, barring an unsatisfactory ending (which I'm pleased to report was not the case), this had become my new favorite book. I especially loved the juxtaposition between Ambrose's family situation/upbringing vs. Liam's, and how Liam's family didn't care where Ambrose was from, just if he treated Liam right. I loved the foreshadowing of things being mentioned seemingly as an aside and then becoming part of the story. I loved every member of Liam's family--particularly Riley and Grandad, and I loved how the pets in the book were treated as part of the family and had their own personalities. Can you tell how much I enjoyed this book?

I won't say much more out of fear of spoiling things, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you read this book! It's sweet and funny and fills you with warmth, and I honestly felt like I was right there at the vineyard with Liam's family, despite the fact that I live in a different country and have never been to Australia. I feel like Liam's family is my family now, and I know I'll continue to rely on "Awfully Ambrose" as my comfort book for years to come.

Ohmygod, they were roommates.

I had the biggest, dorkiest smile on my face almost the entire time I read this book, which I did in four days as a new record for me (but was also super sad when it was over so quick lol).

Let me preface this with the fact that the first book in this series, “Awfully Ambrose,” is my favorite book at the moment. So I went into this one knowing it probably wouldn’t hit me the same way as book #1 in the series, and while that remained true, it also did NOT disappoint. I loved Harry and Jack and their story, which was just so darn sweet. Harry is lovably clueless, and Jack adores him just the way he is. I loved the way things got resolved, and how the “hard part” didn’t last too terribly long, just like in Ambrose’s story, so I was glad to see the same for this book because I get physically sick when a couple who are meant to be together fight or break up! I also really loved how Tristan calls Harry and Jack “puppies,” because that’s exactly what they are.

As an asexual person, I really liked Harry’s discovery of his demisexuality (or, as he calls it, Jacksexuality) and his openness to exploring new territory despite his propensity for worrying. I loved the gradual development of the two starting slow and building from there based solely on what Harry was comfortable with, but more than anything I loved Jack’s easy acceptance of however Harry may or may not have identified. It was never treated as a big deal, nor did anyone treat Harry differently for it, and it was just who he is. It was really, really nice to see such fantastic rep.

I also loved the appearances by Ambrose, Mia (who I adored), and, most especially, Tobermory. I’ve already begun Tristan’s book and hope there will be more after as this is 100% my new comfort series.
