A precious gem in my collection and I hope Dahlia the book, becomes as bedraggled as Dahlia, the doll.

Review from my 9 year old” I liked it and it’s nice how the doll enjoys it though you think she wouldn’t. I think I would enjoy it too! It was fun!”
I collected dolls as a child and happily handed them over to my children so they could have a second chance to live their best Dolly life, getting dirty and rumpled through their adventures with a child.

5/5 of the Very Best mud pies.

The traditional Five are a little bit different in Master Moy Lin-Shin's Taoist Tai Chi, but the forms are recognizable to learners of any school, and the lesson is one that all Masters would approve: Never, ever try to learn the Taoist Arts from a book. Seek out a teacher and learn them properly. Also, ending your practice with the Standing Jong (zhan zhuang) is a very, very good idea.½

When Adèle and Simon arrive for a visit with their uncle in China, he buys Adèle a camera and Simon a number of small items, including a flute and fan. Set in the early 1900s, Adèle describes the sites they visit, including the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, on postcards to her mother and takes pictures along their journey, recording all of the places where Simon loses his gifts. Author’s Note.

A little girl zooms out her second-floor bedroom window in her racecar, taking a spin around town before bedtime. The illustrations reminded me a bit of John Agee (Life on Mars, Lion Lessons).½

Racing fans will be delighted with this new book by Barbara McClintock. I often think of her picture books as tending towards historical fiction and more Victorian-esque design, but the clean lines and brisk story of this book jumps right out at the reader.

Red hair exploding in curls, Annie puts on a white racing helmet with a red stripe and a white jumpsuit and hops into a shiny race car. She's off! Annie races out the window and across the country, through the desert, the city and finally on to a race track. A little tired after all that fast driving, she turns onto a familiar street and zooms into bed for a story before sleep.

The simple, rhythmic text is classic in the best sense, creating a story that's perfect for soothing bedtime reading or a car-themed storytime. Annie, shown throughout most of the book as a bundle of bright red curls hunched over her wheel, is clearly a racing fan, as seen in her black checkered curtains and the decor of her room, not to mention her choice of bedtime reading.

Verdict: Read this to all genders, showing that everyone can like going fast, fast, fast! A great read-aloud and bedtime story. Recommended.

Author Barbara McClintock puts her on twist in this retell of Cinderella. In this story Cinderella know as "Cinderbottom" gains a new Stepmother and two step sisters after her father remarries. The evil stepmother and sister are very mean and cruel to Cinderbottom, they boss her around and treats her like a slave. When they receive an invitation to the ball to come and get a chance to dance with the prince. Cinderbottom has nothing nice to wear and is forced to dress her sisters and make sure they look beautiful for the ball. Hurting inside after her sisters leave for the ball she begins to cry and that's when her fairy god-mother shows up. But here is the twist she gets to go to the ball two nights before the prince takes her glass shoe to find his mystery true love. The illustrations were cute and funny and brung the story life.

This is an amazing book because it gives to different perspectives to the same passion. One from a child's perspective and the other from an adult the has made her passion her career. It shows determination and to trust what you love.

This was a good book to read. I thought this was an original but as I kept reading I notice different outcomes. In this book, Cinderella goes to the ball twice. I thought she was joking with the two stepsisters so that they didn't know it was her at the ball. They didn't know it was her she also serves them oranges when she went to the first ball. After all these three women did to her she still showed them kindness. This ball everyone was astonished how beautiful she was and how beautiful her dress was. The similar parts from the original were that everything still ended at twelve o'clock. The second ball the prince got to know Cinderella a little more and began to fall in love with her. The clock struck twelve and as usual, she had to leave. She leaves her glass slipper like the original story and the prince wants to find out who she is, so he searches the town by letting every woman try on the glass slipper. Cinderella foot matches it and he marries her. The catching part of this story is that she still is helping these people who have done her wrong. She helps these women to find men to marry them. That must have been plenty hard trying to find. The moral of this story is the acting of kindness. It shows us that you may treat other's wrong but you will eventually may need them in the future.

A young girl finds an instruction manual for some of the forms of kung fu, and despite the warning included about not trying them out without an instructor, she goes ahead. Each form she uses - Crane, Leopard, Snake, and Dragon - results in that animal appearing in her apartment and causing chaos. Each one is supposed to conquer the previous, but what they really conquer is her apartment. Can the girl set things to rights before her mother gets home...?

This newest picture-book from author/artist Barbara McClintock is quite an appealing romp, pairing an engaging story about a young girl's martial arts experimentation, and the fantastical results it brings, with immensely energetic, appealing illustrations. I do wish that the conclusion hadn't shown the girl getting rid of the book, as it seems to imply that kung fu isn't worth the 'trouble' that it caused in the story. Leaving that one quibble aside, I did enjoy The Five Forms, and thought the artwork was particularly well done. The sense of motion on each two-page spread, the vivid use of colors, all contribute to the magical feeling, as each form comes alive. Recommended to young martial arts enthusiasts, and to fellow admirers of McClintock's art.½

Parisian siblings Adèle and Simon return in this third picture-book devoted to their globe-trotting adventures. In the first book, they explored early twentieth-century Paris, while they toured America in the second. Here, as the title suggests, they head to China, where they meet up with their photographer uncle and see some of the sights of that Asian country. As in the previous books, careless Simon loses his possessions throughout, adding a "search and find" element to the reading experience...

Having greatly enjoyed the first two titles about Adèle and Simon, I was excited to pick up Lost and Found: Adèle & Simon in China, which was something of a surprise, when published in 2016, given that it had been eight years since the second title had come out, and I was not expecting there to be a third. Needless to say, I'm glad that there is, and would welcome a fourth and fifth installment as well! The artwork here, done in pen and ink and watercolor, is just beautiful, and the story-tour engrossing. I think my favorite page was the one on which Simon and a panda bear come face to face. Recommended to anyone who enjoyed the first two books about Adèle and Simon, and to anyone looking for picture-books set in historical China.½

* McClintock's Cinderella (this book) compared to the tales told by Grimms and Walt Disney:

**Same:
All three tell the fairytale of Cinderella in the same flow. Cinderella's mom dies and her dad remarries a wicked and mean stepmother. Cinderella gains two new stepsisters, who are just as rude as their mother. Cinderella is treated like a maid and gets rags to wear. Cinderella, Fairy Godmother, the ball, the lost slipper, and magic is lost at midnight... all of this stays the same in all 3 tales.

**Differ:
The slippers that Cinderella wore in both versions told by Disney and McClintock were made of glass. In Grimms' version, the slipper was made of gold.
One thing this version includes is Cinderella's father is alive. In other versions, including Disney's and Grimms', Cinderella's father passed away and she is forced to stay in the abusive house with her two step-sisters and step-mother. "Her stepmother ruled her father with an iron fist, and the poor girl knew he would only scold her if she complained. So she suffered in patient silence."
This tale also explains that Cinderella went to the ball TWICE. The first time she ran out 15 minutes before twelve, with no rush. The second time, she ran out exactly at midnight, with a rush which made her lose her glass slipper. Disney's version had Cinderella lose her glass slipper after the first time leaving the ball since she rushed back home. Grimms' version had her going three times.
The part where the step sisters tried on the shoes ordered by the prince, both versions told by Disney and McClintock explained the girls just tried on the shoes and then gave up when it did not fit. Grimms' version included the eldest step-sister cutting off her toe in order for the gold slipper to fit. Addition to the youngest one cutting off her heel.
Disney's version also added cute little animals who were friends with Cinderella who help her get through rough times, the other two versions did not.

**The endings have huge differences.
This story ended with Cinderella and the prince getting married. Her father (who is alive) was happy for them. Cinderella forgave her step-family. She found two suitable noblemen for each of her step-sisters to marry. McClintock's Cinderella tale included a happy ending for every character in the book.
This did not happen in the tale told by Grimms. Grimms' tale of Cinderella had a bit more dark ending. At the wedding, doves picked out both of the eyes to each of the step-sisters. They were punished with blindness due to their wickedness and falseness.

Her word choice is intriguing and descriptive. It makes you want to keep going. When the story ended, I was upset and wished there was more to it. The author makes you feel as though you're at the ball until it's time to go home. The illustrator shows how gloomy life is until Cinderella goes to the ball. Also, when she gets married, the picture is more colorful, cheerful, and vibrant to the eye.

I'd use this book in a class of fourth or fifth graders to teach good morals and that no matter what you go through you can overcome anything. I would incourage students to share about a time someone treated them poorly and how they overcame that and how it helped them become better people then I'd have them write about what they would teach the person that did them wrong if given the chance.

We all know the general gist of Cinderella. This story provides a bit more detailed explanation for the events: why the sisters hated her, what happened to the mother, why the father decided to marry the stepmother in the first place, etc. I particularly liked these details. I also enjoyed Cinderella's consistency in being annoyingly sweet and kind- she even gave the stepsisters the oranges the prince gave her as a gift during the ball.
Overall, this isn't my favorite adaptation of Cinderella (Roger's and Hammerstein's musical will always hold a special place in my heart) but it is one I thoroughly enjoyed.

I have always loved Cinderella, I still watch it all the time on Disney. This version was a little different from what I am used to. In this version Cinderella goes to the ball twice and even approaches her step sisters at the ball, but they did not know it was her. Cinderella and the prince got married and at the end she found her step sisters two men to marry as well. Cinderella was a lot nicer in this version than in others. The illustration in this book was good, I liked the way he dressed them for that time era, even the hair was big and full of flowers and bows.
