Rainbow fish is a book with beautiful illustrations. I would recommend this book to K-2nd graders because of the little words on each page. In this book, the rainbow fish shares its beautiful scales with other fish.

This is a lovely store of a raven who simply did not fit in with the older, more experienced members of the flock. No matter how hard he tried, he simply missed the meaning of what was expected of him. He was puny and thus would never be accepted.

The narrator is a member of the nasty group who heckled him. He had told the puny little guy that he would never fly and then was severely picked on by the others. No doubt about it, they were mean to him. Their bullying hurt him deeply.

When he grew larger he thought he would belong and thus asked if he could fly with them. They nastily said "no, not until you fly to the moon!!!" They bragged they previously accomplished this feat daily when they were his age. Jabbing at the little raven, making him believe he never, ever would be as good as them.

He felt that if he could fly higher and higher that maybe he would be accepted. One night as he looked at the large silver moon, he spread his wings and aiming to fly as high as he could, he did almost reach the beautiful orb. His wings were glittering silvery and as bright as the moon itself.

Then, suddenly, his wings lost power, most likely because his silvery wings were far too heavy. The next morning, he was found lifeless in a hedge close to a tree. Perhaps he came more close to the moon than any other bird. He now gained respect from the flock who were sorry and sure they would miss him.

As his mother sobbed, all were afraid. His little eyes opened. And, he told the flock that he didn't make it, and he was told that they never made it either and merely told him that to get rid of him. And, now, he asked the flock if they could play. Then, they all noticed that he had a silver feather shining on his wing. "I didn't make it," he cried. And the bird who felt the worst about all the nasty bullying admitted that they never made it either, they were just bragging he admitted. "Can you forgive me?" asked the black raven with a heart.

And, instead of replying the little moon raven flew in the air and told the flock to come and play. Now, They all followed as he flew higher.

This is a lovely story of the things we all do to try to fit in. In the little Raven's case, he almost paid a very high price for his attempt at reaching the silvery moon. But, he had a badge of courage to award for his efforts.

This book touched me deeply. I'll keep this one on my shelf.

Celebrate difference in the cocoon of unity!
What a wonderful presentation!
Many thanks to David Henry Wilson for his translation to English from the German.
The illustrations by the author are fun, detailed, brilliant, and absolutely delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone (I've preordered one for gifting to at least one friend), but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from NorthSouth Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Rainbow Fish is a book about a fish who is struggling to fit in because of his visible differences. I really like how this book shows children that it is okay to be different, and that we can use our differences to bring joy and love to others.

Leo's Monster is a cute, little story with absolutely marvelous pictures!

There's tow little mice, Leo and Zoe, who lead the show in this book. Leo visits Zoe and comes across a giant monster (and to be clear, it's NOT the cat). As Leo tells his story about the scary and insane monster, Zoe keeps butting in and trying to give some descriptions. Will Leo ever tell Zoe about this monster? Will the monster be taken care of?! What sort of animal is this monster?!

I have to start out saying the pictures blew me away. I love wonderful art that works well with a story, and this book hit it out of the park! The soft, fuzzy and colourful pictures were A grade. There's so much texture and it works really well! I don't think every reader will like this art style, but it stood out to me. This type of style isn't common in the books that I've read and seen.

The plot itself was super goofy and lots of fun. I would say that this book is designed for fun and not education purposes. Either way, I think it would be a great reading buddy read or for parents to pick up and have a chuckle with their kids. The book is super cute and full of personality.

The word "suspenseful" has been thrown around about this book, and I would agree - suspenseful in the cutest way possible. I'm sure the kids who read this will be on the edge of their seat trying to figure out what kind of monster Leo has seen!

Overall, this book is cute, fun and spunky! I would highly recommend it for kids who just want to have a good laugh.

Four out of five stars.

I received this book for free via NetGalley.
