Rupert Roopnaraine

Rupert Roopnaraine returned to Guyana from an academic post in the USA to join the Working People's Alliance in 1977, and quickly became one of the joint leaders of the party with Walter Rodney and others - a position he has held to this day. He has been a member of the Guyanese parliament for many mostra'n més years, with a reputation for the incorruptible representation of people across all racial groups. He was the prime ministerial candidate for the opposition coalition, APNU, at the last elections. In his previous and other life he was, or still is, a cricketing Cambridge 'Blue' (8 for 88 against Essex); a scholar with a doctorate at Cornell University, an art critic, a film maker and lecturer at the University of Guyana. mostra'n menys
