- Son of G F H Schuler, editor of The Age newspaper in Melbourne, Australia. For a time shared digs with Roy Bridges (author) and Keith Murdoch. PFES sailed on the Orvieto with troops, was present at Gallipoli during the battle for Lone Pine, nursed Charles Bean who had taken ill. Returned home, wrote the first published account of Gallipoli (Australia In Arms), enlisted in Army, served in 3rd Divisional Train. Killed in 1917 in France. Buried Trois Arbre, France.
